New iTunes - how do I play an entire album without having to go into "songs" and check all the boxes?

How do I play an entire album in iTunes 11.0 without having to go to "songs" and checking each tune, one-by-one?

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.4/2.2 GHz), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Just when I think we've disposed with this... up it pops again!

Jamie,

I feel your pain. I agree there's lots about iTunes that Apple have made/left opaque... I don't know why. Where we previously thought we had a degree of computer intuition, Apple comes along and renders us pre-schoolers again. But philosophical matters aside, the answer IS contained in the most recent advice provided in the thread above. With respect, I reckon you're not quite making sure that you're following the instructions given. Re-read and be totally/utterly/completely sure you understand EACH of the instructions.

It's REALLY simple... and no, you don't need to make playlists to play an entire album. All the best.

thank everyone for the secret handshake. Reminds me of the ancient original digital watches. I had to go the web to get the links to here to find the answers. No help from the iTunes Apple site. Inceasingly the value Apple provides is its' user community, not the actual company. The company seems to be trying to self destruct. I am presenlty looking for a viable replacement for iTunes. And I will pay of it. I just spent one hour trying to listen to one album. Life is too short for this B.S.

Hi Chris,

I found a way of doing it and it is vsry simple.

Still doesn't excuse Apple for not explaining it clearly and also for not making it the default in a MUSIC PLAYER!

Go to the top bar and there is a little squiggly thing that suggests shuffle or whatever it is....click it until it is not blue but grey.

Then all albums and playlists will play one song after the other no problem.

maximum of three clicks on the same icon.

You may have to re click on each visit to the app....

Works for me.

Cheers.

Totally agree. To hand select all 31 of Bach's Goldberg Variations is a real pain in the ___. They need to go back to the old way.

I just tried selected all the songs on the album with check marks, but it still stopped after that song.

Rather useless system. I used to be able to click at the top of an album and it would just play the whole album.

The other issue is that if I check all the songs in my list of about 500 "songs", it will sync all those songs with ALL our devices, not just my iPod. It will try to sync everything "selected" when I sync my iPhone and my children's iPhones as well. None of us have enough memory for all that, nor do we want all that music on our phones.

Then you should create playlists and sync only the playlists you want.

Much, much simpler than checking in checking all songs then checking what you want to sync, every time you sync (b cause you want different selection than the last person who sync'd).
