Imac straight from the box already infected with a porn add virus 0_o

I got a Imac for my birthday and the second I was online, I opened Safari to find the loads of Gay **** ads. The Imac was brand new and I had to choose my username settings, take my picture choose my comps name and ect. It was straight out of the box, so why was the computer covered in gay **** the first time I used it? It was a brand new one BTW so 0_o

Also I should mention my brothers and nan were there to see me unwrap and use the Imac -_-'..

Fact is even if I joke about it to freinds no one (except ppl there) believes it.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Where was the iMac purchased? Was it a refurbished model or brand new?

When you say it "...was covered in ..." do you mean physically covered with those photos, or were they on the iMac's screen as wallpaper or something?

My mum purchased it from an commercial I.T store (I think PC world), basically I opened up safari, saw every box had a gay **** image and then loads of pop ups appeared.

It was a brand new model, it came in the Apple box untouched.

I'm not sure if this is normal, but the computer also came with MACkeeper 0_o, which seems like a virus .

It sounds to me as if you got a used Mac instead of new. There's no way that stuff would have been on a brand new one...if it were me, I'd consider taking it back.

Evwn though my mum got it from an official store? has a receipt? and when I opened it, it came with all the manuals, cds and the screen had a protective plastic film on it?

Yep....I think someone returned it to the store (or it was being used as a demo unit in the store) and carefully wrapped everything back up.

I dont want a computer though that has a shorter lifespan than usual. I've only had it a year and it is already getting problems with the usb slots

If it came with MacKeepr installed, it was in some way after the computer left the Apple factory. Apple does not install MacKeepr.

I think I'm to look into this further becuase it's so weird. When I first used my computer (first time using a mac) I lost allot of respect for apple after I saw Mackeeper, it was the first thing I saw when I turned on my new computer. Not only that my bros starting making fun of Apple and I had to constantly go into MAc vrs PC debates -_-'. It's not a big deal, but for me and my bros (computing students) it's a total mystery how that computer was fully packaged yet had viruses on it.

So weird

I have no idea how they can get away with advertising MacKeeper at all.

You really really need to uninstall it, but maybe not using their uninstaller.

You said it came with the CD's? I would guess that it is an older model then - ever since Apple introduced the OS system Lion last July, Macs have not come with install CDs, so yours must have OS version Snow Leopard installed (10.6.x)???? Can you check on two things just to figure out when this was introduced:

Go to the apple and click on about this Mac. Click on the little number under the Mac OS X and post what it says - it should be something like 10.6.x or 10.7.x (don't post the serial number).

After that, click on more info, and then on system info and then post what it says under the hardware overview - the best indicator is the model indentifier, so please post that as well.

I was thinking the same thing about the CD's(DVDS). If so, It's not a new computer.
