Hi,

Well...

Apple tried it once when they stopped using WebX as the software for running the Discussions.

Some people who had emails linked to business based accounts found them linked to their personal account.

The upshot is you can't do it any more (it was so behind the scenes at the time that people had no control over it)

Hi,

Anyone who has achieved Level 2 or above can "report" individual Posts for various reasons.

I have used this to Alert the Hosts to your Request.

I still don't think it can be done and there is no guarantee that they will contact you in any way.

Hi,

Apple IDs are never deleted.

At best they are moved to places only the Hosts can see.

These few will be "bad" names and people whose relatives have provided a Death Certificate.

In the past Apple used a software package called WebX (Web Crossing)

It got to the point that it could not cope with the Numbers of user the Discussion boards were beginning to get.

Apple then moved to Jive and this has been updated to Jive 2.

Apple basically manhandled a lot of old posts into the newer format.

To a certain extent the links between and Apple ID and a Poster's posting name is also an area that required some work.

At the time Apple changed to Jive there were about 2 Million people linked with posting accounts in Discussions.

Now there are over 11 million

You could argue that Apple have taken a simplified route by not deleting accounts.

However this does keep other details that cannot be seen that help identify people either being Trolls or trying to game the system.

I only know that people were offered Mergers of accounts at the WebX/Jive crossover and it has not been offered since.

I also know that if you said "yes" it tended to be automatic from that point on.

Some people found that they had been Merged with similar sounding email IDs.

One person I know had a server Apple IDs some which were based on their work email and these all became linked when that was not what they wanted. (They wanted just their personal ones linked and they had his work one and all the hardware and software linked to that merged as well).

Having said all of that Apple or rather the Hosts (Moderators of the Discussions) have made changes to some Posting names under very strict circumstances - such as finding out the posting name might be considered offensive in some parts of the world - or in cases of harassment.

As Merging will involve deleting one Apple ID it is not done.

It has implications for iTunes and the Authorized computer linked to it not to mention Warranty and guarantee plus Apple Care issues for Hardware.

Understandably you might not want to divulge the reasons for wanting a merger so I have contacted the Hosts via the report option.

Level 2 (those people who have received enough Point to attain Level 2 can use (and see) the report Post link
