"Part of a compilation" NOT WORKING

I've had this problem with a few versions of itunes now. I hoped they would have fixed the problem in iTunes 11. Basically, when I try to import a compilation album, in about 40% of the cases I cannot convince iTunes that all these songs bellong to the same album. It either creates a seperate album for every song (which is really not practical when you import a Top 100...) or makes it impossible to merge multi-CD albums.

Has anyone encoutered a similar problem? Is it fixable?

(I've tried reseting and importing again my entire music library in the previous version of iTunes and it didn't work...)
