How to selectively enable items disabled in Safe Mode

My late 2009 iMac (3.33 GHz, dual core, 8 GB RAM) runs very slowly for all application during normal boot, but quite snappily when booted in Safe Mode.

Disabling startup items and booting normally doesn't resolve the problem.

How can I further troubleshoot? Is there a way to selectively enable items that are disabled in Safe Mode, thereby isolating what is cua

All seems snappier.

I'll shut down overnight and see how all is in the AM with the processes disabled.

Glad to have it working again, and have your troubleshooting steps. But what flummoxes me is how all that software (much of which is quite helpful) works on my MacBook Air vintage 2011 summer, running same OS, but cause problems on this machine.

Anyway, will confirm tommorrow if all working well with identified processes shut down. But if you've got any ideas why these cause a problem (you've helped me identify what is causing th problem), I'd appreciate.

thanks much.
