Ipod Touch 5G- WiFi is very slow or won't work, even with 3 bars and stood next to the hub. Is there a problem with iOS 6.0.1? Any one know a way to fix it?

Even with 3 signal bars on a 11mb/s connection. It takes more then 3 mintues to load Google fully!

It works fine loading one page then goes back to being slow or no excitant. It seems to start working again after using speed test.

At first i thought it was the case but after removing it there was no difference😟

I have tried every thing i could think like:

1. Turing it off and on again

2. A complete restore and backup. (Done this about 3 times)

I'm not sure if the new iOS 6.0.1 up date has caused this as it seemed to work fine for about a week after.

Any help would be appreciated!

We have a similar problem. In this case we are with FiOS and have a recent ActionTec router. Single band but supports 802.11n. My iPad 2 works great but my son complains about the speeds with is iPod Touch 5th Gen. Our Macs get good througput but they are on Cat 5e, not wireless. I assume that the wireless is operating at 8902.11g since we have some older wireless devices in our house (iPod Touch 2nd Gen, Wii).

I've been struggling with this as well. The WiFi was so bad I couldn't even complete a purchase in iTunes!

That said, it may have something to do with band switching. My routers are all broadcasting G and N, mainly because the wife's notebook is G only. When I set the router to run in G-only mode, the iPod Touch was a reliable little machine. This is still a "new" discovery for me (did the update less than an hour ago), but it seems to have done the trick.

Hopefully iOS 6.0.2 (or whatever is next for the iPod Touch) resolves this issue fully ...

I have same problem:

I saw another topic on this but it was a couple of months old. Last month I purchased a ipod touch 5g. It runs great except the speedtest tops out at about .3 mbps down and 5 mbps up. I don't understand what is going on. All my other wifi: Macs, ipod touch 4, ipad 2 & 3, etc work fine and get great speed of 9-15 mbps down and 5 mbps up. I can barely watch an Amazon video. Sometimes it goes fast but that is few and far between. I have tried resetting the network on it. I adusted my router for all the recomendations by Apple.

It was suggested to remove the security on the router just to test it. I did that but it made no difference. This happens whether I'm close (10' or less) or farther away. Is there something I'm missing or do I need to return it?

I keep seeing something about iOS 6.0.2 but my iPod Touch says I'm up to date at 6.0.1

thanks,

Bryce

iOS 6.0.2 is for the iPhone, so the iPod Touch is out of luck on that front. I had the very same issue for the longest time and found that by changing my router to use only 802.11g the problem was "solved".

It's not a great solution, but this seems to resolve the problems I have with my 5th Gen iPod Touch when it connects to non-Apple wireless routers. Hopefully the next update will allow us to go back to using both 11g and 11n at home.

I have the same problems with my Ipod Touch 5G, speed tests show that my Ipod Touch 5G speed was topping out at .30MBPS when I have 7MBPS internet speed, my Ipod Touch 4G speed tests were showing 6.40MBPS so I thought it was the Ipod, I returned it and got another one and still the same thing, Apple Support couldn't help me or say much really, my wireless setup was set to 802.11B or 802.11G or 802.11.N I tried different settings and when I changed mine to 802.11B Only it brought the speed up from 0.30 up to 4.30 so its much better now, although its still not up to my 6.40MBPS speed that I was getting on my old Ipod, and I even have both of them updated to the new 6.1.2, Apple please fix this issue!

Honestly, I'm not exactly sure what the deal was. I switched to a much more powerful AccessPoint by ubiquity and everything works much better including and which makes it so that laptops don't have to suffer and speed. I never really understood it because it would work fine at the schools and other places. It was just a home that it did not work right or other small routers. Perhaps Apple just uses higher-quality components in the routers such as other more expensive Commercial ones too. It's still frustrating now. Switching to be ubiquity Fixed my problem though. It is an outdoor sending unit radio, but it still works great indoors too. I had to turn the power down because I think it was frying our brains.
