Hi,

I think I figured it out:

"When iTunes plays consecutive tracks from the same album, crossfading is automatically turned off, with no fading between the songs (or tracks)."

(this is from iTunes help)

Itunes will NOT crossfade songs consecutive songs on the same album. To enable crossfade, your tracks need to be "out of order' (i.e. clicking on random will do the trick) or from different albums.

That's not the solution for the problem I'm having:

Turn crossfade on

Create playlist

Add random songs to playlist

Start playing a song in the playlist with all boxes UNCHECKED

As the song plays CHECK a song underneath

iTunes will not crossfade to the song checked underneath

iTunes will crossfade songs if you check them BEFORE starting the songs

iTunes did not have this issue before version 11.

Before version 11 if you changed your mind or wanted to pop in a last minute song to crossfade to it would work perfectly.

Thanks Haiduk, higligting the song (or songs) then setting the preference crossfade works every time . I can even change the crossfade for the end of each song independently by selecting that song. It is not intuitive that a setting in the "preference" at the level of the "itunes" menu would affect each song independently. Doesn't see to follow the logical hierarchy?!

That's nonsense! Why should you have to click "shuffle"... play order is paramount to the proper functioning of a music player for dog sake! Even AirPlay to my Pioneer receiver, using "Up Next" doesn't work! This is crazy! A simple iTunes upgrade and half the functionality goes out the window. And more amazing is that no one at Apple gives a #$%^&!!

Anyone else still having issues. I have tried everything suggested. Multiple times. The most I'm getting is an 8 second crossfade (set on 12). If I set it on 10 seconds, I'm only getting 7 seconds. I'm running 12.3.1 OSX El Capitan. Any suggestions? I know I can trim the ends of songs but that would be a hassle for a long playlist. There's got to be some kind of setting preventing this from working.

EXACT same situation for me! I created an awesome playlist for MY wedding also and had selected crossfade songs. Of course when I begin playing music at the wedding, there's dead space between all the songs with NO crossfade. Made me so frustrated - especially since I had tried and tested it in the weeks and days before the wedding. Then we're there with 100 people and I'm trying to make it work with "crossfade songs" checked, but it doesn't happen. Reading all the suggestions above, it's clear that there's too much bulls%*t to trying to get this simple feature to work! It should just work - period - when it's checked. 😠
