let me first say that I respect your expertise and commitment in this forum (and I also like your music on SoundCloud). You and a couple of others like Pancenter, Eriksimon, and BeeJay should be on Apple payroll for your support of Apple’s customer.
However, I don’t understand the point of your post regarding my signature. I use that signature for quite some time now and I’m also active on other forums on the Apple site. Do you think the moderators wouldn’t have spotted that? Quite the opposite. I had my run-in with the moderators for some "over critical" posts or links that were not allowed. I also had my share of posts that were deleted by the moderators.
It seems that you are familiar with the wording of the Use Agreement that you quoted. Maybe you should have recognized that I use exactly that phrase “I may receive ….”. That should be give-away that I’m quite familiar with the text too. I had some discussion in the past with the moderator about the signature and this is what was agreed upon. Can it still be interpreted as a violation - of course? Do you think I should add the exact page reference of my book for the individual post I’m responding to?
I’m not selling my music, I’m not selling sample libraries or music hardware. As a side business, I’m writing manuals for Apple’s software products like Final Cut Pro, Motion, GarageBand and also Logic. I’d like to think that every Logic user knows about my unique books, but that is not the case and posting that link in my signature gives the “help-seeking-Logic user” an additional option to find more help on the current topic or Logic in general if he or she wants to learn more about Logic.
I self-publish all my books. I don’t have any support from a publisher. I developed a uniques style with my Graphically Enhanced Manuals (GEM) that helps the beginner as well as the advanced user. Apple posted a link to my website on their Final Cut Pro product page when I started with the first Final Cut Pro X books. I got personal compliments from programmers and people inside Apple about the quality of my books. I can send you long list of testimonials from satisfied customers. The amount of effort I put in those books is in no relation to the money I make (you ask my wife about the time commitment). Apple even earns their 30% of the iBook version of my books. BTW, if you had a chance to look at the iBook version of my Logic or the my new GarageBand X book, then you would know that there is no other book for these apps that provide that kind of interactive learning experience with such detail.
As I said, I self-publish all my books, that means I don’t have an advertising budget and although my books are available as printed books on Amazon, they are not on any shelf of any physical bookstores where you can find all the books of the major publisher.
My advertising efforts are restricted to reviews, blogs, word of mouth and social media. Being active on forums and letting people know who I am and that I wrote a great book for that specific app is one little drop in my big picture of getting the word out without using spamming people.
If you think it is necessary to bring up the issue of my signature and the possible effect that the moderator might re-think their action, that would just close another opportunity for me. At the end, it would also hurt potential Logic users that might appreciate the help I provide in my book, a book he would never know it existed.
PS: If you noticed, I didn’t mention the title of any of my books.
