Got a Mac Mini recently, the HDMI to HDMI connection shows a bad picture: contrasts are washed out, text fonts are blurry.
With MDP-VGA adapter the picture is ok.
What can it be?
Mac mini, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), Mac Mini (late 2012)
First install the 1.7 firmware update. Click the apple in the top left and select software update. The Hdmi port on the 2012 minis were having problems(threads below). I'd start off by doing that, then report back :)

Yepp, same here. I am wondering if and how Apple is going to resolve this.
The only thing what works is connecting the display via VGA port, using the Mini-Display-Port to VGA-Adapter.
Great to see that Apple technology is always a step behind. I really regret buying this machine.

I use a Samsung 8000 series 2012 led.
But that doesn't matter. I run all hdmis to my Onkyo receiver.
I tested the early 2012 Mac mini model too and that works fantastic!!!
It's the late 2012 with intel hd gpu 4000 that's screwing it!

As suggested in other threads here about similar symptoms, first try different profiles under System Preferences -> Displays -> Color, or if it doesn't do anything good, create your own profile by taking a run through Calibration. You can then always switch back & forth, compare and optimize.
I am yusing a Samsung 40" TV, a Samsung 22" Computer LED Screen, a Topcon BonitoLED 22", a Philips 19" LED...
It is not the monitor, all work fine with Windows PC and Laptop, also works fine with my old MM 2010.
Apple botched it up with the latest MacMini. Releasing faulty products all the time now. I really regret buying this machine. Should have bought a Zotac ZBOX for much less money...
I understand you being frustrated, but you never confirmed that you had the FW update installed. Is that done?
FW update has been done - NO CHANGE!
The picture is just so BAD.
I do not understand why it works fin with every Windows Machine and the old MM 2010 on the asme display.
This is an all-beginner's issue here, even 30$ DVD Player have a better picture.

The same issue on mini 2012 . i'v done that and change the setting of my
Display, i used to think it's just a setting problem, cause my aoc 23'lcd works fine on my windows
notebook use the same hdmi line.
but latter i found it's useless and my EFI version is 1.7. Hope you guys could find some solution
The only thing what really works is using the Display Port to VGA adapter and connecting the monitor via VGA. Firmware update, calibrating, profiles and whatever dues not come up with anything near to good picture quality. Hope that Apple is working hard on a remedy and comes up with a perfect solution asap.

This issue has been fixed in 10.8.3 Build 12D38 (Pre-Release) released on December 5th.
I can now use HDMI without blown out colors.
