My iPhoto '11 won't let me sort ALBUMS manually. How can I fix this?

Recently my iPhoto just started bothering me by not letting me reorder and sort my albums manually, and this aggravates me so much because it's something I prefer, rather than sorting by daye, time, bla bla bla. Please help me with my problem 😀

Free space isn't an issue. It's recommended to maintain a minimum of 10 GB of free space at all times. Up that to 20 GB if you use iDVD. 4GB memory should not be a probolem unless you have a lot of apps open at the same time doing heavy work.

However, upping the memory to 8 GB does make noticible speed increases in the system and most apps. I upgraded my iMac to 8 GB for $35 at Crucible.com.

Keep us posted on your progress.

It appears that all went well (although it did take approx. 12 hrs) to 'rebuild' a 34GB Library... but it did it this time without all the stops due to iPhoto failing to close. I'm guessing that if there was a problem with a photo/file/album in the library, it was in the first half. (but who knows)

Both Libraries seem to be working fine now.

I 'thought' that when I bought this computer (it's relatively new) that I asked them to 'max out' the memory... but looking yesterday, as you suggested, I realized that there is two unused slots and I can double my memory.

I'll look into doing just that.

Thank you.

Also, if I haven't mentioned it before... iPLM has an UPDATE out.

Hello Ade2..

Don't know if you are having the same problem as me, but I was finally able to fix it using "iPhonto Library Manager" and doing a 'rebuild library' from iPLM.

I may take a while, so turn off the 'energy saver' settings on your computer. IF, I remember right, it took between 6 and 9 hours to run a 'rebuild' on each of the libraries I was having trouble with. But it did fix the problem.

Make sure to get the latest versin of iPhoto Library Manager'. I wish I could remember more, but it's been several months since I was messing with this problem.

Good luck!

Has anyone else tried the workaround above? I assume once you move the albums back into the top levee, they become un-moveable again, but I will try it myself. I'd like to report that a couple weeks ago my albums "unfroze" and I was able to re-arrange. I have no idea what caused it. But then it went back to un-moveable. Again, no idea why. So that might be a clue to the cause of the problem. My library is over 200GB so I might try to rebuild with iPLM if I can find a couple days to spare without needing my computer. I have another computer that I use less, so maybe I will copy my library to an external drive, then ask that other laptop to chew on it with iPLM for a while. If it works, then I can copy the fixed library over to my original laptop.
