DNS problem, but Wifi works fine.

Hey guys !

So here's what is happening. I basically have a modem (without Wifi), and when I try to go on the internet with it I have a DNS problem (that's what Chromes says anyway). First thing I tried doing was to check if I could go online by using an other way: Safari didn't work, and no better luck with Firefox.

Then I tried going online using Wifi (not the same modem) and it worked fine.

So I tried the modem on another Macbook, to see if it's my computer, or the modem, and, well... my friend was able to go online. Really don't know what to do...

By reading the post, it says that a SMC reset is only necessary if I have issues with fans, lights, power, system performance or video... and I don't.

The thing is, I replaced the Hard drive like 2weeks ago, and I installed Mountain Lion just after that. My computer is "brand new", well the software and the hard drive at least.

As I said before, I thought it might have been the Ethernet Port, but I managed to connect with another MacBook using that port.

I use Time Machine, if I go back like 3days ago (when it worked), will it help ? I mean does it place the System stuff back, or only my files ?

Actually, now that you mention it, that would be a good test.

Boot into Recovery by holding down the key combination command-R at the startup chime. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.

Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.

From the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A clean copy of Safari will launch. No plugins, such as Flash, will be available. While in Recovery, you'll have no access to your saved bookmarks or passwords, so make a note of those before you begin, if they're needed for the test.

Test. After testing, reboot as usual and post the results.
