animating a beating heart
Does anyone have an idea how to animate a graphic of a heart so it looks like it's beating?

There's a Pink Heart shape in the Library > Shapes section.
Whatever you use, image or shape, go into the Inspector > Properties > Transform
Right click on Scale and from the popup, Add Parameter Behavior > Oscillate
In the Behaviors tab, for the Oscillate behavior, click on Half Range, set the Speed to about 50 and the Amplitude to about 20-25 (or however you like it.) To get a "more even" scaling effect, change the Wave Shape to Triangle.

thanks for that. It helped alot. I'm trying to achieve an even more organic effect than that, similar to this

might not be achievable in Motion, perhaps.
Select the shape (if it is a shape) and go to Behaviors (gear icon) > Shape > Oscillate Shape.
Set the Amplitude around 12 or so, Speed around 50, and turn off Alternate Phase.
You can adjust the center points ("Point Origin" onscreen control) and add the Behavior multiple times. If you want to do some interesting things with the sync'ing of the behaviors, set one up at 1/2 the speed of the other (start there and experiment!).
You could also use one or more of these behaviors with the Oscillate behavior for scaling that you've already tried.

thanks heaps...its a shape I'm using.
that's really clever....before your reply, I had started to rotoscope the shape of the heart in the video. The behaviours are such a time saver.
the behaviours creates a much more organic effect....what a program!!!!
keyframing the shape would definitely be the more "accurate" way to go.
Did you notice you can keyframe the Origin Points of those Osciallate Shape behaviors?? Or add another Parameter behavior to them like a standard Oscillate? It will actually give the shape a little bit more of a "thump".
i like it 😉
Didn't think of oscillating the origin. I've created a second oscillate shape behaviour, have changed the speed to 25 and shifted the origin a little to the left.
I didn't even know you could oscillate the shape until today!!!
Please upload your heart project to YouTube. Would like to see what you came up with.... (Post the URL in here.)
For sure.
