Lexicon Omega - GarageBand3 - I can't get audio in.

Hello there, I wonder if anyone can help me please.
I have just bought a new Intel iMac and bought a Lexicon Omega soundcard.
The Mac can see the soundcard so that was all good, or so I thought.
I eventually got a copy of Cubase LE (the one that came with the soundcard doesn't work for Tiger) but for both Cubase and Garageband I cannot record any audio. Audio comes out, but it won't recognise the Omega in any program. I can see it an operating system level, so in Sound settings and the Audio/MIDI utility.
The computer originally came with 10.4.4 and Lexicon brightly told me that it has to be 10.4.6 so I have upgraded but am still at a loss.
MIDI in/out are all fine, as is audio out, it's just getting audio in that I can't get a handle on just yet.

I would be very grateful if anyone does have any thoughts/suggestions.
Many thanks,

Migs

Have you selected the interface in
GarageBand's preferences?

I have now, thank you. So Garageband then gives me the option of Channels 1+2 or 3+4.

I have selected 1+2 on the software and the hardware and Apple tells me it has no control over it (and the levels are up as I can see it on the hardware peaking away) but it it won't record any audio still unfortunately?

Again, many thanks

Actually it should give you more options, you should also be able to select each channel for a total of 4 mono tracks, not just stereo pairs.

but it it won't record any audio still unfortunately?

Create a "New Basic Track", make sure whatever is plugged into the interface is plugged into channel 1 (or 2). Check to be sure the track is set to use whichever channel(s) you're using. Post back with what happens.

Hello again,

Sorry - you're absolutely right - I can also choose Channels 1-4 as mono tracks.

I tried a new track and set it to 1+2 (as I am trying to record a stereo track) and the same thing happens. There is just no audio passed through to the iMac (or so it would appear). Should I be able to see the meter moving on Garageband {it isn't)

I also have exactly the same problem with Cubase LE.

Once again, many thanks for your help.

What are you trying to record? Are you sure you have
something plugged in to channels 1 & 2 on the
interface? Have you tried selecting channels 3 & 4?

I've got a Roland Fantom X8 going into Channels 1 & 2 and then I've got a Boss GT8 going into Channels 3&4. On the Omega, the meters flash up for both Channels 1&2 so I think that's working, but obviously I've missed something out.

Again, thank you for helping me out - it really is very much appreciated!

Hi there,

Thank you for the responses.

I have connected the Omega soundcard to the iMac via USB.
There are two audio connections from the X8 to the Omega (1 and 2) and then two audio connections from the GT8 to the Omega. Then two audio out connections to a pair of monitors.
The MIDI connection I have made from the Fantom X8 to the iMac via USB and this is all working fine.
So definitely have audio connections in as I can hear both the Fantom and the GT8 through the monitors, and audio out from the iMac is also coming out and MIDI fires in and out.

It's just that I can't record AUDIO at the moment.

The record enabled button has also been turned on so it should be ready (and I can record using the iMacs internal Mic but this isn't what I want as you can probably expect)

Again, many thanks for all your help - and sorry for the frustration!

Hi there,

Yep, standard 1/4" audio leads. Infact there isn't a midi lead in the house (something I'm not used to!).

That's why I think I'm doing something ever so witless.

I can select the Omega in GB preferences (I presume I choose Lexicon Mac USB), yet there is no audio passed through - yet it comes out.

I was just wondering if it was an Intel iMac problem - as I completely agree with you, in theory everything can see each other and there is no reason why the audio could not be recorded.

Unless my iMac is super intelligent and knows I'm not worth recording...but that's a different story altogether.

Once again, many thanks - all the help is very much appreciated.

That was my conclusion as well unfortunately - how infuriating.

Lexicon have said that 10.4.6 would solve all of my problems, hence I updated but alas, it didn't quite do what I wanted.

Thanks again for all your time - definitely a winner to find these discussion boards for advice.

I just wonder if there is anyone else out there who has an Intel Mac and a Omega and whether they have had the same problems.

Cheers,

Migs
