hmmm, wonder how reliable that info is? hope it's not just a fob off.....if it's legit, then that is great - assuming ofcourse it works that is!!!

yes, there seem to be very differing opinions from each and every apple employee about the problem - they are hiding behind an embarrassing glitch that they can't figure out and don't know how to rectify. i'm sure someone somewhere is in a room trying to put it right but there will never be an admission...

I believe it is legit. The employee at the store didn't ask about any details. As soon as she heard about WiFi not working on 4s she interrupted me and said that it is a known problem and I should wait for the software update in 1-2 weeks. Looks like Telus unlike everybody else received info from Apple. I hope Apple comes forward and tell people to stop putting phones in freezers 😟

Unfortunately things work differently in US and Canada. I have no idea why Telus knows about this update. I would rather have my phone replaced since I have it for 9 months now and it already have some scratches but the employee at the Telus store was positive - no replacement, should wait for the update. I live in a small town and we don't have Apple store here so going to Telus was my best option. I may try calling Apple directly to see what they have to say about this. Will keep you posted.

Now I am really confused. I called Apple and after spending just 2 mins on the phone explaining the issue to the guy, he told me that this is a hardware issue and they will replace my phone. I mentioned to him what Telus employee told me about the update but he said that for him this is a hardware problem and mentioned something about loose contact with the antennae as a probable reason. I don't mind having my phone replaced but it is a puzzle why Telus will tell me that this is a known issue with 4s and to wait for an update. The guy from Apple also told me not to believe everything I read online and that they sell millions of phones and only small percent have issues. I just hope that I get lucky with my new phone and not have this issue again especially after my warranty is done in 3 months.

Probably cause Telus guys have no idea, nor they know about Apple updates. Sounds like you got your first apple device, just for the future, there is no way anybody would know about Apple's new devices or update. That is until Apple announces it. Apple keeps that info very tight, using the fact that manufacturing is out of US. Just like we can only speculate on reasons of same problem with multiple phones. I am sure Apple already knows the answer, and you were informed of it, you just reap the benefit of your warranty. You will get another three months to complain about your previous problem and new problems after replacement. Every time you will have multiple people with same problem, with everything that will happen to your phone, use warranty, you lucky you.

The problem is the hardware failure, wifi chip damage or soldering on the circuit board lose! Because my phone also just happen last 2 days ago. When iphone 4s drop so hard or drop frequently it can happen. To solve this problem the best way is to sent to apple service if you still have warranty. Else you need to replace the wifi chip. My phone is working with wifi now after replace the wifi chip. You can't do it yourself, you might need repair shop to do so. Also cheap.🙂 rest the software is not help.

If it is a hardware issue, it is sort of interesting how many people simultaneously experienced it on the heels of the 6.0.1 update. I don't mind it if one weighs in with an opinion that this is solely hardware, but the evidence that this is due to all of us simultaneously dropping our 4s iPhones at the same time seems a little silly, doesn't it? Of course, it might be hardware in any particular instance, but that seems very unlikely (especially since ours was fixed with a software update at the Apple store).

My phone was working even after updated to ios 6.0.1 without any problem for quite sometime. It just happen in the morning when I was using. So wifi button became gray out and can't do anyting. I went to apple care but they refuse because i bought in Singpaore. My job is travell aroung so it is really bad for me. I went to repair shop here and asked them they said hardware failure and need to replace or resoldering. But in the same time one guy came to shop for repair, same problem like happen to me. they fix them in one hour I was just watching and wondering. But it work, they replace the Wifi chip. That's why i can say that is hardware problem. For my phone i hope i will go for apple store in Singapore once i back. Software won't help in anyway!

I cant turn on my wifi. Its greyed out
