iTunes 11 download iTunes Extras keep getting Error-19

I've downloaded Avengers with iTunes Extras using iTunes 11 running under OS 10.6.8. Film downloads fine. Everytime I try to download extras it gets to the end of 1.65gb then comes up with (err = -19). It lists the file in iTunes but it is greyed out. When i click on it, then go to 'get info' it only says 45.5mb but it says it's location is iCloud. Surely it should have downloaded into my iTunes media folder on my iMacs hard drive. Been in contact with Apple they don't seem to know how to solve the problem. Directed me to a discussion on iTunes LP's which is from 2009.

They also keep going on about firewall and web acceleration. It can't be a firewall issue i've been downloading music and films the past couple of days and I don't use any web acceleration, plus I have set up rules in my firewall preferences to allow the iTunes url's access. Anyone have a clue as to what is happening, personally I think it's a store and iTunes 11 problem.

I have the same problem. OS 10.6.8, Mac Pro. iTunes 11.0.1. I get this error:

"There was a problem downloading “Taken 2 - iTunes Extras / Taken 2 / Oliver Megaton”. An error occurred while reading from the device.

Please check that the connection to the network is active and try again."

The actual download of the extras file should be 967mb, but in the Downloads.tmp directory, the largest of the several attempts to download it is 865.6mb.

~/<me>/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Downloads/Taken 2 - iTunes Extras _ Taken 2 _ Oliver Megaton.tmp/Taken 2 - iTunes Ext 1.tmp/down.m4v

My solution is that I didn't "upgrade" my Mac Mini music server, which uses iTunes 10.7 as the "database server" for Pure Music, and I use that iTunes to download the extras files.

Hi Richard, thanks for response. I found another thread where people are reorting the same problem, and that's on Windows as well. Others also confirming downgrading to 10.7 fixes it, but it looks like a real hassle.

I've been in contact with Apple support through email and I've got to say they're useless. You're just given the runaround. They don't seem to read what you say in your emails, I've said numerous times through email and on the phone, that I'm running the latest version 11.0.1 under OS 10.6.8. on the 17th of Dec I get an email saying they have escalated the issue to our engineers, now 3 days later I get a response asking:-

This is Pierre again from the iTunes Store Customer support.

Have you tried to install the last version of iTunes (11.0.1) and tried to re-download the Extras?

Do you have any network security software installed?

Apple are really p***ing me off now.

Chrisills & Richard,

vaclavfromradonice has the correct solution to this problem.

Just follow the instructions from this link:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1583

or even easier, follow the steps below:

1) Quit iTunes first.

2) You will then have to navigate to ~/Music/iTunes/iTunesMedia/Downloads and delete everything in it. Dont worry, as this folder has only your cached video downloads. Delete the ".list" file (if any) as well.

3) Then, re-open iTunes and you should have your iTunes Extras download automatically for you (if you have this option checked in your iTunes preferences). If you don't see any downloads taking place, then with iTunes open click on "Store" and click on "Check for available downloads".

These steps should solve your problem.

The following is only intended as a fix if the above steps dont work out for anyone:

If the above steps don't work, then try turning off your firewall and anti-virus program(if any). Try to "Check for Available Downloads" and then turn firewall and anti-virus (if any) back on.

Please let me know if this helps.

Cheers.

When I contacted Apple support they asked me for my login details for iTunes and tried to replicate the problem but it downloaded fine. I have deleted all the files in the download folder. Went back into iTunes and check for available downloads, but it says all purchases have been downloaded for this Apple ID.

I'm thinking because Apple support temporarily logged in under my details and downloaded the files the system now thinks all the purchases I have made have been downloaded successfully.

I have just gone back into iTunes and deleted the Avengers film. I then clicked on the little icloud symbol next to it and it begins downloading again, but it is only downloading the film and not the iTunes Extras.

I was thinking the same thing, that it was a corrupt iTunes Extras. I was tempted to purchase another film with iTunes Extras to see if it happened again, but I don't really want to make the problem worse. I have been downloading music, rented films, and other purchased films in the last two weeks perfectly fine. It's just this issue with Extras.

In April 2012 I downloaded Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol which included iTunes Extras. At that time I was using iTunes 10.6.3. It's only since I've upgraded to 11 that a problem has occurred, and those iTunes Extras do show up in iTunes 11 and I am able to play them without any problems.

I went to that support page you posted and checked the list of url's you need to allow. The only one I had missing was the gs.apple.com, so I have added that to my list of trusted addresses in my firewall, but personally I think that there is an issue with iTunes 11 and OS 10.6 Snow Leopard.

Wow, that's for iTunes on Windows as well. The thread was started in 2011 and the last entry is 16th Dec 2012, and it says they finally fixed the problem with 10.7 then they downloaded iTunes 11 and the same problem has happened again. WOW!! Looks like the so called 'Apple are excellent at customer care' is really a myth.

Reminds me of the Megahertz myth that Apple came up with in the days of the Motorola PowerPC chips in Mac computers and they're PC computer equivalent.

Chrisills I am using the latest OS X 10.8.2 and recently purchased a Beatles album form the iTunes store with an extra and get the same thing...I am going to try the suggestion re deleting fromt he directory. failing that I will try from my laptop wich hasnt had iTunes updated....will keep you informed folks. Will have to wait though as I have downloads happening at the moment.

Jan 7, 2013 7:00 AM in response to paulinefromurraween

Hi Pauline, thanks for the reply.

If it's happening in OS X 10.8.2 then it must definitely be an issue with iTunes 11.

Great! let me know what happens with iTunes on your laptop, I'm not normally a betting man, but I bet it will be OK from previous versions of iTunes.

Apple support have been in contact with me again and say they are still working on the issue, although they say they have isolated it to OS 10.6.8, but your issue conffirms to me that it is iTunes and not the operating system.

Hi Chrisills,

Went to my macbook pro which is using OS X 10.8.2 as well but I havent upagraded iTunes, mainly because I think the latest iTunes is a backward step to when it iTunes was first released...but it has iTunes 10.7 (21) on it.

I dont usually use iTunes on that machine but it is a back up for my library in a sense. Went to look for available downloads and there it was...downloaded like a charm and very readable/workable. Hope this helps. I actually decided to do this before I went about deleting anything else for a resolution.
