I can't send hotmail emails from my mac but I can receive them

Ive got exactly the same problem, does it work for people without bt internet?

Thank you soooo mcuh it works. I have BT Hub4 and it did not work with it so I used my old Hub3 and it worked 🙂. Bloody BT it was your Router.!

i am from pakistan and using ptcl broadband service.

what i did is chnged the computer name from complex to simple name like ProBook and than it started working fine

This worked for me also, Thanks. Tried loads of different things but was getting nowhere.

Nothing worked for me. I have an Exchange mail account which works just fine and 4 POP accounts (of which 3 Hotmail accounts). All of these 4 can receive messages but not send them. I've been living with this problem for over a year and haven't managed to fix it yet. I have OSX Mountain Lion, and Apple Mail 6.5. It's got nothing to do with the router (Lynksis, which doesn't have the menu as described above), because when I try it elsewhere with my MacBook, the problem persists. Please help.

Odd that it suddenly stopped working after months of being ok, I wonder if it was to do with Msft switching from old Hotmail to Outlook? anyway who cares....thanks again Vincent

I've had this problem on and off for ages when using certain home hubs. then BT reset my homehub last week because my internet was uselessly slow, and havent been able to send hotmail messages from macmail since - driven me mad, contacted BT support, and apple support, and booked into genius bar (but knew that as soon as there it would all send fine). then found your post! solved (for now) thanks so much

I did exactly the same thing- I put a space in the name in home network on the router's homepage and it didn't fix the problem. As soon as i removed the space it worked again.
