Is there a smart dialing feature of setting a default area code on the iPhone?

At our enterprise, we have numerous iPhone users, where the phone numbers are outside the immediate area code. Some of them were previous blackberry users that converted to the iPhone, and they remember a setting under a "Smart Dialing" section on the Blackberry that let them change their default area code to another area code, thus this would allow them to continue 7-digit dialing.

I could not find anything on the forum - or other forums, for that matter - that mentioned there was a similar feature or an alternative means to gaining this ability on the iPhone.

Does something like this exist for the iPhone? Or if not, is there a means of adding this feature to the iOS software for the Phone's settings?

Any information, or insights are greatly appreciated.

Hi Razmee209 and thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately, that was a setting that we did try, and it didn't seem to help - as we placed a few test calls, where the out of area phone number, even with "dial assist" turned on, still had to use the full 10-digit dialing.

I think I might try your route of submitting a feedback, as you suggested.

For what it's worth, I've found it's easier to simply save all number in their 10 digit form. Cell phones can use 10 digit dialing even in areas that don't require it for landlines.

Hi Meg,

Thank you for your response. Yes, I understand, and that is how I have been storing numbers since having a cell.

However, I still felt compelled to inquire with the iPhone comunity. Most of the iPhone users in our enterprise are Blackberry converts - and often refer back that way when comparing features; for they were only recently all converted.

Due to the fact that Blackberry had a feature that allowed users to set a default area code, prefixing all calls dialed - thus allowing for 7 digit dialing when the number entered did not have all 10 digits entered - many users still have their contacts listed as such, as well as are used to 7-digit dialing, and have not had the time to get used to 10-digit dialing - which has become the new norm/standard with mobile devices.

So when the question came up - and I couldn't find a similar feature/app to answer their question, I felt compelled to ask if a similar feature existed for the iPhone. I did place a feedback notice with Apple as a possible feature request, as I can see where that could be helpful to some, but who knows if it even goes further than simply a lost submission.

Either way, again, thank you to for your response, as well as to everyone who has read and/or responded to me so far. I greatly appreciate your input.
