Can't edit artist name in iTunes 11

After updating to iTunes 11, I cannot edit the artist name. I can make changes in the Get Info box but after selecting OK, the changes do not take place. I am trying to merge songs into the same album but the guest artist names mixed in with the artist has scattered my songs all over the place. Any help would be appreciated.

I've figured out a solution to your problem which I also had this problem to begin with.

  • Go to the song that you want to edit.
  • Right-click the song and click on "Show in Windows Explorer."
  • Now right-click on the song file that you want to change the song information that's linked to the song you want to change to begin with.
  • Click on "Properties."
  • At the bottom of the list where you see Attributes, uncheck the bow where you see "Read-only."

Now you should be able to change your song information on iTunes 11.

Cheers!

Ok this DOES fix the issue. But how do I change a setting that will permanetly fix this? With .Zip files that are downloaded this does not happen. But with a torrent file it does. Why is this? It hasn't always done this. Just started doing this to me 2 days ago. Before when I downloaded a folder I could drag all the songs into itunes and be able to edit the song info no problem. However now, if I don't uncheck all the "read only" files, I wont be able to edit it on itunes. Unless I uncheck them maunally. How to I change this setting where read only files will automatically UNcheck? This is really aggrivating and I have suspicion a friend whom used my computer changed some setting. Please someone have an answer for me! This is annoying!

Hey! Here is how I do it! Either before the CD is ripped or after...select all tracks you want as 1 album! Get info...yes to edit info on multiple tracks then you have to enter some of the info manually so that they will all be one compiled album! it's pretty freakin simple although there is the occasional itunes can't find album art or other odd occurence because now it is not identical to the itunes store listings!

I tried following everything and nothing worked. BUT THEN I found a solution. For those of you who are still having issues with editing (I'm operating on Windows 8 but assuming it will work regardless) after unchecking read-only files/etc

1. Right click anywhere once you're in the music older you're trying to pull ripped songs from.

2. Go to "Security" and click where it says "edit" ("To change permissions, click edit")

3. Find your specific username that you're logged onto. Click on that and where it says "modify," it should be unchecked in the "allow" section. CHECK that button and apply changes. Voila - you can now edit artists and titles.

This sounds brilliant. However, I'm running Windows 7 and when I click to apply the changes, it says "You will need administrator permission to change these attributes. Click continue to complete this operation." And when I click continue all the windows go away but the changes haven't been made. I'm the owner and sole user/administrator on this computer. Does anyone know what to do here?
