Can't edit artist name in iTunes 11

After updating to iTunes 11, I cannot edit the artist name. I can make changes in the Get Info box but after selecting OK, the changes do not take place. I am trying to merge songs into the same album but the guest artist names mixed in with the artist has scattered my songs all over the place. Any help would be appreciated.

If the music of the artist you want to edit thee name is in the ''downloads'', you have to transfer it in the ''desktop'' of your computer. After that, you will be able to edit the name of the artist, the name of the music, the artwork etc.

I've found the solution to this.

I tried clicking on all the albums that were really one compilation album but which had split into a separate album for every track. I selected them all and right-clicked and selected 'Get info' but found that whatever I added to the different values i.e. 'Album Artist' did not save and had disappeared when I re-opened it.

I tried selecting individual albums but couldn't edit them.

I had it so that the music I was adding was put in the iTunes Media folder. I opened this folder in Windows explorer and right clicked and selected properties. In the General tab there is an Attributes section at the bottom one of which is read only. This must be ticked by default. I unticked it and it said would change this value for all sub-folders and files in Music folder, which took about 30 seconds.

When I re-opened an individual album it let me edit the info and when i tried selecting all the different versions of the one album, selected 'Get info' and changed the album artist value all the many versions of the album merged into one.

Success! Yeahhh! ;-)

Hi! If you are using windows, go to the files you wanna transfer....if its a bunch, select them all and right click for their properties. open the details tab. At the bottom of the window click "Remove Properties and Personal information" Button. If you just want the title to be there on you phone like me, first check the "Remove the following properties from this file" and click "Select All". Or else remove those ones that you done want to appear on the phone. This applies to all phones including adroid. At first i had to change each file's name in itunes by clicking the "get info" in each file's properties but later i figured this. Check it out....PEACE!

(This is particularly referring to audio files:)

I was having the same problems but only with a handful of videos. It was making me crazy because I wanted my iTunes movie section to look nice and uniform but those few titles stuck out like sore thumbs. I figured out my problem. The permissions in those few files didn't allow me to make those changes. What I had to do was move the file from the external hard drive back onto my internal drive then in finder click on get info once I clicked on the lock and entered my system password and my name showed up in the permissions automatically. I locked it up and that fixed the problem. You'll need to delete the copy that you have in iTunes and add the copy that is on the internal drive make the changes and move it back to the external drive. iTunes seemed to follow the file back to the external drive. I did not have to delete it from iTunes when I sent it back. Remember to delete the extra copies of the file that were left behind when the file was moved around. I'm trying to figure out why I can't grant permission while the file is on the external drive. If I can figure this out I'll post it on the thread.
