ctrl-s didn't do anything for me except to show the sidebar.

That's all it is supposed to do.

You can choose the idevice from the sidebar or from the button on the upper righthand corner shown here where it says iphone.

But then you won't have the Sidebar, which is what seems to be confusing most people about iTunes 11 as it looks different.

This discussion is about why photos is not showing up in the idevice,

It is showing up on the device. You just were not seeing it because your iTunes window was too small.

so that photos can be sync'd. Is it not? If so, then what does Ctrl-S have to do with this discussion?

Please follow the posts. Seems Braves1fan77 is not seeing his iPhone.

In order to see the iPhone, you have to select it.

and the lack of the Sidebar is what seems to be confusing most people about iTunes 11 since it looks different.

If this post does not help you, feel free to ignore it.

Did you get a solution to your problem. I have the same issue. My ipad device is plugged, but I don't see the option to click Photos either. I can synch my device and it tells me it is copying photos but they never appear. And I don't get the same menu bar that everyone else seems to have other than you. I would be grateful if anyone can help.
