Iphone 5 and IOS 6.0.2 is draining my battery!

Beware IOS 6.0.2!!

I loaded IOS 6.0.2 yesterday. Unfortunately it only partially fixed my wifi issues (I already have several posts about my wifi issues). But, to my complete and utter frustration, it introduced a NEW ISSUE I was not having before -- it is absolutely draining my battery. I can usually get through a day with about 75% of my battery power remaining. Today I've gone through 90% and I've done nothing special with it.

Come on, Apple! I know you guys have to be reading these posts. You are driving your loyal fan base away. I'm ready to get my money back and switch to Android. The time (hours-and-hours spent trying to debug my problems) and money do not seem worth it any more.

I tried to restore ios 6.0.1 without success, but i don't want try again. Apple is responsible of this situation and i don't want lose my warranty. They must resolve this problem that i didn't have before the update. I use this phone for work, and payd 729 euros for a device that in this condition is useless. 4 hours in stand by is a shame! Unfortunatly there is no assistance in these days at apple store, but I'll go asap!

Thank you for all your replies!

The first night I installed 6.0.2 i woke to find my phone off. This has almost never happened to me. Obviously if the battery was almost flat it could happen but with no usage I would usually lose no more than 5% during the night on every iphone ive had. I am sure it had far more than that. Although, maybe because it ran flat, I havent had any battery problems since but I still have the wifi issues :-(

I had been using wi-fi for backup, so cloud backup was off. An interesting page here: http://www.apple.com/iphone/battery.html

which says (regarding the 225 hour standby claim):

Standby Time Tests

Testing conducted by Apple in August 2012 using preproduction iPhone 5 units and software, on both GSM and CDMA carrier networks. All settings were default except: Wi-Fi was associated with a network; the Wi-Fi feature Ask to Join Networks was turned off.

9 Days .. I can't even get 2!

I am having the same issue. I called Apple support and they checked out my battery via some over the air connection and the guy told me don't worry your battery is fine. But I can tell that it's not fine b/c I had more juice before I upgraded. Secondly, I am losing about 1% charge every 2 min of casual use (just checking my email or visiting a site like yahoo or msn). It is ridiculous and I feel like I was tossed to the curb. The guy was like well lets wait 2 wks to run another diagnostic. I mean is this really the best help that they can give me by telling me to wait?

I had heard about IPhone 5 using cellular data over wi fi, fortunately I hadn't experimented this problem until now that I updated to iOS 6.0.2. Now even at home with a strong wi fi signal, it uses about 2 Mb of cellular data an hour. I saw one thread discussing this, the software update not only causes battery to drain faster than ever but also causing the nightmare I'm telling you about. Anyone noticed this? Any solution besides turning off cellular data?

The update was draining my battery. I work for the airlines and most of the day my iphone is in airplane mode. After flights it's down about and additional 10%. End of the day it's less than 20% and it's been in airplane mode most of the day! I hard rebooted it and now the wifi issue is back; it drops the wifi in stby mode after about a minute.

I am having the same problem after updating the iOS software to 6.0.2 today. I actually never had wifi issues or battery problems, all was within expectation. Today, however, I went to watch Skyfall and during the time the movie ran, about 2 hours and a bit, my battery had drained from 85% to 45%. It was on silent and nothing was going on or at least nothing that I initiated. There seems to be real issue here and I would hope that this can be fixed asap since battery life is one of the key downsides of the iPhone5.

My iPhone 5 on IOS6.0.1 was running just fine with both wi-fi and battery life until being prompted to upgrade to 6.0.2. Having so much faith in Apple I upgraded as advised and life is full of unpleasant surprises since!!!

Having a fully charged battery (100%) just before going to bed I woke up to find my phone battery down to just over 70% while I was in dreamland (or wherever I may be...). Just a few phone chats and quick email downloads via wi-fi my battery reading is down below 40%!

Tried turning to online Apple support for help but that's a total disappointment and bloody waste of time. I hope my faith in Apple is not misplaced!

So, I am in the same boat. 6.02 is draining the battery of my iPhone 5.0. However, i noticed an interesting pattern. It looks like small triangle appears on the left of my battery indicator. That icon usually appears when there is location service engaged. I noticed that this occured even if I do not have application with location service enabled running. It took me me couple of clicks on home button to go away. I would assume that when the service location is kind of active it will drain battery. So when I leave the phone with the triangle on it drains the battery, if I managed to get rid off triangle the battery seems to be OK. I have no clue why this location service keeps engaging even if I no longer use application. I yet need to test, what would happen if I completely turn off location service. Anyway, please look into it, and let me know if you encounter the same thing.

Thank you.
