how to add a gap clip above main storyboard

In FCPX I would like to add a "gap" clip above my main timeline edit so I can add markers - see http://fcpx.tv/Pages/tips6.html for the idea.

This will then be the length of my edit.

Unfortunately I have not found a way to drag a gap clip or insert a gap clip other than add a small clip at the beginning and end and ad on in the middle (which I don't really want to do. Any ideas?

Thanks

I found a workaround that works for now but would like to know if my question above can be answered.

1. I added a basic title with no letters above my storyline and stretched it the full length.

2. I added my markers.

3. Disabled the clip by using "V" but still had visible sign of the markers which helped.

I can still navigate to the markers using the Tags display in the lower left and as long as it is disabled there is no additional rendering.

Happy for now.

but … your storyline IS the timeline ....

why not applying the markers there?

the storyline defines the timing, the content, the pace, the … story. If you change any position there, your 'marker track' is completely useless/out of synch!

(sorry for being stubborn, but I really don't understand why TWO, independent ( ! ) timelines are needed for one project 😉 )

I just find it easier to see a blank clip with just the markers - it works for me and as Tom says "The gap clip is transparent and takes no processor overhead." so to me it is just dandy.

Of course Apple could bring in the timeline markers back and also the coloured options. I know there are 3 now but it could be better.

Thanks for your concerned comments btw - have a nice xmas
