authorize computer

I am trying to sync music on my itunes to my ipod (nano 2nd generation). I have authorized my computer and when I click "Transfer Purchases" I get a message that says that some songs won't transfer because they are not authorized on my computer. How do I sync with itunes without wiping everything from my ipod?
