Finally!...My iphone5 can now send MMS with images

Ever since I purchased my iphone 5 from Vodafone I have not been able to send normal mms messages...imessages worked fine but only to other iphone users. After countless long calls to Vodafone Customer service, several visits to their stores, a replacement iphone 5 and a replacement sim, I could still not send normal mms messages...grrrrr.

Worst of all I was told by Vodafone that this was an 'unusual' problem...despite me telling them that numerous forums were inundated with iphone users having this problem.

So...after 3 hours going through all of the configurations with my techie at work I've finally cracked it!...this fix also worked for my son's iphone 5 and also my neighbour's iphone 5. None of us were previously able to send mms messages with images.

The problem was not caused by a faulty sim, nor a faulty iphone...nor was it a vodafone network issue. The problem was a corrupted password and file tag which had been pre-set by vodafone.

Depending on which software you have on your iphone this is what you need to do:

IOS 6.0.1:

settings -> general -> mobile data -> mobile data network

mobile data

apn - wap.vodafone.co.uk

username - ***

password - ***

MMS

apn - wap.vodafone.co.uk

username - ***

password - ***

MMSC - http://mms.vodafone.co.uk/servlets/mms

MMS Proxy - 212.183.137.012:8799

MMS max message size - 307200

MMS UA Prof URL

Reset Settings

Firstly, tap "Reset Settings"

Secondly, delete the 2 sets of 3 asterisks against username under mobile data and replace in both cases with the password 'wap'

Thirdly, delete the 2 sets of 3 asterisks against username under MMS and replace in both cases with the password 'wap'

Finally, delete the figure of 307200 against MMS max message size (This will reset to 307200 but its important to delete it first)

Then with imessages turned off so that your iphone defaults to MMS, send a text message with an image attached (make sure it is not too large). Voila!.....all 3 phones that we have reset in this way can now successfully send MMS messages with images.

Don't forget to turn back on imessages after you have finished your test.

For 6.0.2 the procedure is the same except that initially you select general then Cellular then cellular data network

I'd be very interested to know how many people this fix works for.

Many thanks,

This also solved a similar problem that many on the Vodafone network have experienced.

The vodadone forums have several threads with customers complaining that their iPHONE 5's could not send MMS or surf the net over an EDGE or GPRS connection, although over 3G the data connection would work as normal. Vodafone tech team have been unable to help....

Just blindly resetting the network settings / changing sims etc has never worked for me but changing the username/passwords to *** prior to reset (automatically went to "wap" after reset) has fixed the problem.

Can I suggest you cross post this to the vodafone E-forum so others can get the benefit.

Hei Scorps,

I have a similar problem:

I'm trying to be able to send MMS, but I am not getting there.

I'm in Norway, my company is MyCall and the data they gaveme is:

Dear customer!
Thank you for your inquiry.

Here is a guide to applying the correct settings for data and MMS on your iPhone.

Follow these steps

  • Tap Settings -> General -> Network. Make sure data roaming is turned ON.
  • Go to Cellular Data Network. Enter Internet as the APN. Username and Password should be blank.
  • Go to MMS and enter the following:
    APN: mms
    Username: mms
    Password: (blank)
    MMSC: mms.nwn.no
    MMS-proxy: 188.149.250.10
    Max MMS size: 307200

Please see the attached file for pictures.

When you restart you phone
You may be asked to enter your phone number when you restart your phone. If this is not the case you have to enter your phone number in Settings -> Telephone -> My number. You can check if the correct settings are applied by sending an MMS to yourself. If the message is not sent, you will see an exclamation mark next to the message. If this happens, try the following:

  • Remove all MMS-settings
  • Press and hold the keys on the top and bottom of the phone for 10 seconds, until the phone restarts. This might take a while.
  • When the phone restarts, follow the instructions to apply MMS-settings and try again.

I've tried it. And couldn't do it.

I have talked to them again, but they were not able to help me.

Can you please help me?

I never thought this was so complicated on an iPhone 5... It was suppose to be user friendly. I have a ten year old nokia and it is so easy to send MMS there...

Thank you so much!!!
