I found it!!!! The utilities folder was coming up in a small window and I did not notice the slide bar was all the way to the bottom. I went into disk utilities and ran "repair disk permission" then rebooted, The last two things on the list said they had been modified and cannot be repaired. I could not find any lines that refered to me to drag to the desk top. The bad news is that I still have seven question marks on that bar that cannot be removed. I appologise for the screw up.

No problem, did we ever delete those files & reboot?

Then move these files to the Desktop...

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist

Reboot & test.
