The iPod with the stuck switch started working except now one channel on the headphone output is not working. I've had to lug this useless piece of junk in my backpack for the last 8 months now. It has never been used (which diagnostics mode should confirm) apart from multiple restores in an attempts to get it functional.
I did call into Brisbane, Australia on a stopover for 8 hours enroute to Indonesia so made an appointment at the Chermside store. They confirmed it would be replaced, but they didn't have any in stock. I explained I was leaving again that night. They were unhelpful and stuck to the company line and refused to entertain any requests for credit on another iPod or even a 11" MacBook Air, instead saying I could get a 10% discount (which i can get in just about any other store) on a new iPod with their recycling program. Yeah sure, donate it to one of the richest companies in the world. I asked to leave it and have the repaired one sent to my mother in Australia, but that again was refused.
I received a email the next day saying my replacement iPod was waiting for collection at Chermside when I was 5000 Kms away by then. The warranty runs out in a few months and I'm unsure about what to do.
Is there anywhere in Central/Southern Java that could repair or replace my ipod? What about Kuala Lumpur? I'll be there in a month. Rangoon in Burma is out of the question I suppose for Apple service?
