Upgrading to iphoto '11 - it's been twelve hours...

The spinning wheel is still there and it doesn't look like much is happening. I just upgraded my operating system to OS X Mountain Lion, so that I could upgrad to iphoto '11 - I am worried about closing it, because I don't want to lose any data... what should I do??
