Messages for Mac: No profile picture in chat box

What device you on? All the iOS devices should use your contact page and the image you place there. Otherwise, on a Mac (whatever sort), goto the Apple Menu > System Preferences > Users & Groups where youll find your login details. Thats where you need to set the photo you want to use for yourself. If you use one of the stock photos they have there, youll get the blank in messages.

I have a new 27" (Late 2013 iMac). This is what I am having the issue on.

I have changed my profile picture when I first set up the Mac.

However, I'm still not seeing my profile picture in Messages on the same system:

What am I doing wrong? 😟

And I think this proves that I have it set on the Mac properly because it is showing when it comes in on the left but not the outgoing message on the right... 😟

Checked your imessage prefs?

btw...if you can, delete you pic of user prefs...it gives out your email address (or close enough to guess it anyway.).

Ok...the only oither thing I did when I was playing around trying to figure it out, is I setup a TEST account (a second user), which uses a default image. Maybe that was the trigger.

I guess now I don't know how to remove the picture because the edit option seems to not be availabel any longer. :S Grrrrr!!!

I checked everything and still nothing. So I don't know. I guess it is something I will have to ask a Genious the next time I'm in the Apple Store. I have my profile picture everywhere I can find to add it. So I'm stumped 😟

BTW. Any idea how to delete the photo you recomended above? I'm not overly concerned but I see your point...

Strange with the image. It was definitely the User image for me.

Hey guys, maybe this'll help you, it worked for me:

In Messages, in the topbar, open window and there you'll see all your accounts (shortcuts cmd+1,2,...), open them in individual windows rather that all together as you probably usually do and change your profile pic from there (just drag it to the top right corner). I have found no other way to get my own profile pic in conversations than this.

Thanks for the tip! I was however able to get mine to work. I simply signed out of iMessage on my Mac and then logged back in. I guess by doing that it pulled the image in because it is working fine now.

Here is how I got it working.

I changed all the pictures on the profiles etc. that others did in this, these signed out and in again, but it didn't work.

Then in Contacts, I opened the card were I have all my deatails and picture. With it open go to menu and drop down "Cards", click "Make this my card". Then sign out and in again on imessage. My photo appears on both sent and recieved sides of the im screen.

In Messages, I went to Window, Contacts, went to my Contact, the one with the photo that I wanted to use, and edited it. I put in my username (contact info) for Jabber (since that is what my chat room is set up on). Then I saved it, quit out of Messages, got back in .. and BAM my profile pic was there!
