iTunes and Windows 8 Home Sharing (Possible Fix)

If this fix has been posted elsewhere then I apologize, but I wanted to share what I stumbled on as a possible for for iTunes Home Sharing and Windows 8. I did a lot of port forwarding, both on my router and my Norton firewall, but nothing seemed to help. After a few minutes my Apple TV and iOS devices would stop seeing my iTunes library. The only way to fix it was to reboot the router.

On a whim I looked in my Device Manager and found under Network Adapters a device called Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter. I disabled this, rebooted my computer, and have since no issues with Home Sharing. It's only been a few hours, but that is the longest I've gone since installing Windows 8. I'll look in the morning to see if it still works.

So give this method a try and see what happens. Hopefully it will fix your problems.

In your software firewall create two new Inbound Rules. Open port 3689 (TCP) and port 5353 (UDP) to All Programs.

Sharing is working now!!

So I've got an Imac that displays my Windows 8 pc's Homesharing library. My pc does not see my mac's though. I've tried everything from this post, although not all in combination. I have another pc with windows 7 and it reads my mac's library. My windows 8 pc sees my windows 7 itunes shared library. I think it has something to do with the Windows 8 pc settings. I have them all under the same itunes account. Anyone else experiencing this?

Had this issue on windows 7 and again on windows 8 and forgot what the fix was so had to look it up again. For me on both i had to disable Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) on my LAN adapter. Worked great after that. This also fixed my issue with streaming from iTunes to my airport express.

I've been looking for some kind of solution to this problem for weeks. Since I got Windows 8 Home Sharing stops working regularly. I just tried disabling that Microsoft Kernel Debug Network Adapter. So far it's working great. Thanks for the fix.

I've fixed my iTunes Home sharing by disabling IPv6 for the whole computer, but thats the problem. It's for the entire computer. Could someone, please, help me figure out how to disable it for iTunes only! I tried using firewall on iTunes.exe and iTunesHelper.exe to block only IPv6, but no luck.
