whatsapp not working on iphone 3G

And again, the topic of this thread has absolutely nothing to do with Apple or their 'attitude'. How can anyone capable of dressing themselves every day not see that?

It won´t change unless we stand for change. Maybe you are a millionaire 15yo who never has had the experience of having a product, device or whatever that would last more than 4 years. I have had that experience and refuse to accept that I should throw away a perfectly good phone, that will contaminate this planet beyond words can describe just because a CEO wants me to buy a very expensive new version of it.

If you accept this and do nothing about it, one day, you will regret having done so. Maybe in 20 years but you will.

Normally wouldn't waste the time, but got to say something on this, it's not (only) ignorance we see here in this forum, but also a considerable amount of arrogance! (Yes kiltedtim, you know who I'm talking about!)

Fact 1: whatsapp doesn't care about the customers who still have older phones

Fact 2: neither does Apple!

Btw: kiltedtim, I hope you are fooling yourself with your thinking on this, coz you aint fooling us - this is abominable customer service.......... It shouldn't be like this, either from whatsapp AND/OR from apple!

Watch the trends: iphone 5 doesn't hit sales targets, uncertain vision over big phone, mini, maxi etc., and the reaction of the markets...... Looks like apple is losing the plot somewhat (rip Steve)

Anyhow, tomorrow I will buy a cheap android phone for my 13yr old daughter, who was happy with mum's old 3g, till this problem came along

Does apple (or kiltedtim) care? Definitely not, but one day sooner than both think, they will wake up to see that I'm not alone!

And by the way Tim, I wont get hit by the door on the way out, I'm much too clever for that!!!

i got a reply from whatsapp! she said "Your device is too old." !!!!! if this is the kind of tech support they come up with, i guess it's time to switch to viber or skype or even messenger seems better.

Apple no longer supports the iPhone 3G, nor does WhatsApp.

In order for WhatsApp to provide a more secure and reliable service for all of our users, we simply cannot continue supporting older versions of the app. If you have WhatsApp Messenger version 2.8.4 for iPhone 3G on iOS 4.2.1, you should be able to continue using WhatsApp with the same phone number. Unfortunately, Apple does not provide any way for us to distribute previous versions of the app, so you will need to have had previously downloaded version 2.8.4.

WhatsApp is an internet-driven service. It requires all of the devices that connect to it to be able to use the same protocol (similar to "speaking the same language"). As our protocol evolves to add new features and improve security and performance, it becomes imperative to enforce all of our devices to use the newer protocol. Otherwise, our system becomes vulnerable to attackers and spammers. If we allow old devices into the system, we allow the few users with old devices to jeopardize the experience for the rest of our users. Eventually, the protocol will evolve to a point where old devices will simply not understand the new protocol entirely.

You're living in an alternate reality... you realize that, right?

Reality is i have a perfectly functioning device, that is only obsolete because two companies want it to be. That is the reality. And as long as I live I will search for the companies who still want to make a good product that lasts, have happy costumers and don´t want to destroy the planet by making us throw away a perfectly functioning device that will contaminate this planet beyond belief.

That is reality and nothing else
