No sound at all with bluetooth....

I had this issue, it turned out to be Flash settings for the video that I was trying to watch in Safari. When video is playing right click, settings, speaker tab, select the Bluetooth speaker from the list, click X to close.

Same problem with new MacOS Sierra 10.13.2. I connected with my Marshall Kilburn, it spoke at the begin, then later it dropped, still connected, I did all sound pref check and stuff but still no sound.

✅ Solution:

- remove connected device

- reconnect it

- keep Bluetooth window opened.

then it speaks forever 😁

I would add that the mute button does not even have to be selected for this to be the issue. My mute button was not selected, so I clicked the checkbox to select mute, then unchecked it. voila. Worked like a charm. So even if your mute button is not checked, this could still be the issue.

Definitely Sound pref issue select bluetooth device check mute option is unchecked

I had the same issue. My solution was to delete the bluetooth device and re-pair it with the Mac.

None of the solution above worked for me. While I tried something different and it worked.

1) remove your bluetooth device (which is already paired)

2) restart your MBP.

3) pair the device again.

This happens in High Sierra 10.13.2 Beta (17C67b). You have to keep the sound pref window open to keep the bluetooth audio connected.

I have finally found the solution which I think is the issue we are all having. Go to your MBP and when it is connected to the bluetooth device instead of clicking disconnect, (because Im assuming you can connect) just hit the option below which says "Open sound preferences" make sure when the window opens you do not have output volume "Mute" on.

I dont know why this happened but it did, must be a MAC osx bug. Maybe when I muted my speakers it mutes the bluetooth permanently from time to time even if i unmute by hitting the volume button.

Let me know if this works.

Forgot to mention, I have OSX 10.8.2. So it is not a Lion specific problem. I have an MBP 13 mid 2011.

Actually, using a BT dongle under Win7 in Parallels once I succeeded to make the Onbeat Awake sounding, but only once. It means to me (but I may be mistaking) that the issue is a kind of configuration issue, or the built in BT chip and the Onbeat Awake are simply not compatible (and this would make me sad, as I like the device).

I am curious about the solution, so I would also appreciate any ideas.

I have gone through this process yet when I view the dropdown list of bluetooth output options my Bose Soundlink mini does not show as an option even though it shows as "connected". Just Apple TVs... ?? Help please!

I have the same issue....laptop won't connect neither will iPhone and they used to work flawlessly. I tried EVERY suggestion listed above with no luck. Truly a huge pain!!!!!! Using a Bose Soundlink wireless speaker and OS 10.13.2.

I have a problem too, sort of like this, it connects but just doesn't show up in output, and its stuck in place for input, No multi output device for input only the headphones. And output it just isn't there even if i connect it. Plz Help

It is so incredibly annoying. I cannot connect from my macbook air, but used to be able to. I cannot connect at all from my iphone. ERG! frustrating!

I spent about good three hours at a local BestBuy with an Apple expert and other well-informed reps. No luck. The unit connects and pairs with MBP, communicates but does not play music. I called JBL tech support. They went over basic steps of Bluetooth pairing and eventually blamed it on Apple product. I have MBP 2011. I even updated software to Lion. It works perfectly with IPod, IPhone. I would love to hear a solution. I might buy it again.

Just puchased the JBL Onbeat Awake (which sounds excellent I might add when played over bluetooth with both iPhone and iPad).

I have a Macbook Air and everything looks good from a connection standpoint when trying to connect via bluetooth; however as the kind folk above mention - no sound.

Running Lion 10.7.5 - 11 inch mid 2011 macbook air.

Would love a solution as well.
