HP Scanjet 3570C does not register on MBP

I have an HP scanner (3570C) that I successfully and often use on my G4 Pbook. Fired up my new MBP yesterday and everything seems to operate just fine, but I cannot get it to recognize the scanner. When I run system profiler it reads the scanner as being plugged into the USB port, but when I open my scanner software it gives me a dialogue box saying there is no scanner identified. This is the case whether I use the left or right side USB port.

I am using an old scanner driver which works fine with the G4. I downloaded an updated version from the HP website and it doesn't want to work at all (though it seems to fun fine on my iMac G4).

Only thing I can imagine is that it is a USB vs. USB 2.0 issue. Any advice would be appreciated.
