How can I sync notes without wifi?

Sometimes I am working in the field without wifi and make notes on my iphone/ipad. Later I want to work on them on my laptop. How can I transfer them from my iphone to my macbook pro without wifi? It seems in mountain lion this is no longer possible via itunes.

I don't see any settings for syncing notes through iTunes, but both my devices are set up for iCloud. I'm not sure if that eliminates the settings or not.

I tried setting up an ad hoc network on my Mac, but it wouldn't sync over that. It would be nice if that was possible.

A annoyingly difficult workaround: If you have the ability to power an Airport Express, you could set up a WiFi network to use.

Rather expensive just for that, but the Expresses are quite handy for other things like extending your home network.
