Try to reset the iphone by pressing power + home until it shutdown, If it do not work try to reset the setting,
The reason the WiFi grayes out:
With iOS6 and iOS7, being big battery drainers and massive memory firmware, heats up the WiFi chip, integrated inside the logic board, causing the WiFi chip to shut down before any melting or damage of internal components occur. The WiFI grayed out means your iPhone is protecting its insides by shutting off the part that could possibly overheat everything else. The WiFi grayed out is usually temporarily fixed by blow drying the corner right on the camera, to "overheat" the chip quickly, then by putting it on front of a really cold A/C vent unit ect, the extreme temperature change will trip out the chip making the wifi active.
For all those who've insisted this is a hardware issue, I just updated my iPhone 4S from iOS 6.1.3 to iOS 7.0 and my wifi is working again! Here's to hoping it sticks... and works again for others too!!
UPDATE: Shoot, the update must have heated up my phone just enough. Worked for about an hour, now back to 4G. :-(
I just upgraded my 4s from 6.1.3 to iOS 7.0 hoping that it would solve it, but it's still greyed out. 😠
Same thing, but no good for me.
This happened to my husband's phone. He took it with him to Afghanistan. It was turned off. When he turned it back on (to come home last week), the wi-fi was greyed out. He has an AT&T iPhone 4s which I am sure is probably just out of warranty. Ugh. As soon as he gets off the phone, I am going to go through the list of tricks presented here. We did update all of the software and such. It was a no-go as far as a fix goes.
Thank you to everyone for your input.
guyz keep your feeds coming for whoever updated to IOS7
it is our only hope i guess to resolve this problem permanetly ...
Updated to iOS7 but my wifi button is still greyed out. I hate that so much. Can't this be fixed? What to do now?
I have a problem with my wifi since I updated to iOS6. I though it will be ok after I update it to iOS7. My wifi will keep disconnect when ever I want to download some Apps from Appstore or using FaceTime. My wifi will disconnect whenever Im using the program which required large amount of download. Ant solution for this? Thanks.
I had the WiFi button grayed out after I got iOS7 beta 2. The iPhone battery also drained much more quickly with iOS7, which is expected.
This is my experience.
I have had a 4s for almost 19 months and has been faithfull to me, until 3 weeks ago, wifi greyed out on me and bluetooth was searching and searching. I've been doing the stupid freezer techinque on/off and the longer I put it in the fridge the longer it would connect but doesn't last at all, and gets annoying. Then iOS7, worked for a blip of a second before greying it's butt out. So I went to a repair place and told me that it would cost me a lot of money, also it depended on the person who is repairing it if they are brave enough since not a lot of people do it but the problem is a serious issue for the 4s. I thought no, I'm not risking that with the high price tag. I have never heard of the hair blower trick so I tried it. I put it on the highest setting and laid my iphone almost on the edge of my bed knowing this is going to get hot. Aimed the blow dryer to its headphone jack roughly 1cm or less until it told me to "wait till it cools down" or whatever so just to make sure that the solder or whatever is going to stay in place I left it in front of the electric fan before the "cool down" warning was gone and so far its working great. Wifi is on and working as well as my bluetooth. And an issue I had before I heated it was that when my 4s dies it greys out again and again, which by surprise when it died after I heated the 4s and opened it, it was working great. I've heard people saying it only lasted a week to a month, I'm going to try heat it again this time on the back top right corner where the chip supposedly is.
FINGERS CROSSED x
I ordered a replacement WiFi chip/antenna assembly on amazon for less than $8.00 including shipping to Canada.
Most definitely a mad in china knock off, but hey, the original is made in China as well.
Don't let anyone charge you a fortune to repair it. There are some great tutorials on the web, and amazingly, it's very easy to open up the 4S, unlike other models. I have yet to receive my chip yet, however I did open my phone up and disconnect the battery in order to try a powercycle. You will need an iphone repair kit, but those are vailable online for 5 bucks or less. I got mine at Princess Auto (Canada) for $4.00. ll you need is the one with 2 screw drivers. (a small torx and a small phillips)
I will update you all once I replace it, and see if that does the trick.
WiFi was working fine on 6.1.3, updated to ios7 and WiFi is dead, can't turn it on.
I remember when ios 6 was released I had a similar problem with my previous 4s, a few days later another update came out which fixed WiFi.
It has to be an iOS problem, I'm fed up as at home I rely on WiFi due to the cell signal being unreliable. Phone is out of warranty, so unless a bug fix comes out I'll have to buy a new phone, as this is the second time an iOS update has caused this I won't be buying an apple again, I need it to be reliable.
Are you using the most recent beta of iOS7?
The official release of iOS 7, no beta.
