    Mine was after an update. No discount offered.  I expect 2 yrs out of a phone especially if I'm under a two yr contract with a carrier.   What a dysfunctional philosophy from your response.

    Maybe go get an extended warranty. Or have Your carrier  do the update for you. Then they may be liable. If it causes the problem from the software download, as we see it does.

    It's funny that people love a company so much that they'll defend them no matter what, and infer that others are intellectualy inferior for disagreeing with them and not wanting to take being ripped off.


    The fact of the matter is:  Apple's own hardware wasn't fit to run its own operating system, and we the customers are paying the price.


    My phone was 14 months old when this happened, and that is unacceptable.

    had a technical guy from Apple telling me he'd never heard of the 4s wifi issue, said that maybe the phones were old and had been dropped or such like!


    had another apple guy say that it's a hardware problem and that the OS upgrade can't cause hardware failure!


    I asked him if he'd read the forum and said he doesn't read them; I told him he wasn't doing his job correctly as they should be concerned about the problems, users opinions and react accordingly . . . . . maybe that's what they're doing though . . . . . and training them to deny all knowledge!!!!

    Well all I can tell you is this:


    I talked to Apple at the store, on the phone, even their business group because the company I work with gets us a 15% discount on anything in the store....NOTHING!  I actually sell close to $10k a year in mac hardware for them as I consult with dental offices and some lean towards mac.  And I got the same hardware BS.  I even explained that I have done the "heat gun/blow dryer" method multiple time and it "fixes" the issue for a month or so....  They had "no idea" how or why that could work, but stated it has to be "water or dropping". 


    SOOOOOO  with that being said and for those of you out there that are unwilling to drop $200 for a new phone when it is obvious that the iOS7 is the issue I am here to tell you the blow dryer thing works.


    I have replaced my screen myself 3 times and had a pro do it once because I couldn't wait to get the screen delivered as my phone was non-functional and I need it for work.(screen didnt display anything)  I have used the hair dryer technique 4 maybe 5 times now over the past 8 or so months.  I take my wife's hair dryer, turn it on high, hold it 3-4 inches away from the phone and heat the back upper right corner of the phone(directly below the headphone jack) for 5-7 min.  Afterward the phone is HOT, but can be held within a min or two.  I only wait 15 min before turning it back on a everytime the wifi is back and functional.  I do this sitting in a recliner with the phone on the arm rest if you are nervous as to what the phone is sitting on while I heat it.... 


    Anyway, it is a pain in the ***, but the 6-8 weeks that it works before it acts up again makes it just reasonbly unannoying enough to keep doing it.

    The wifi/grey-out problem on my iphone 4s started yesterday morning.  I tried all the restore/reset advice I saw on this and other forums to no avail.  I made a Genius Bar appointment at my local Apple store yesterday evening only for the "genius" to tell me that this was a hardware problem, that the phone needed to be replaced, that I should have bought AppleCare, that I was one month out of warranty, and that I had to go to ATT to file an insurance claim.  Went to ATT, got the insurance info, was about to process that claim online (and pay my $199 deductible!!), when I decided to do more research.  This morning I tried the hair dryer trick as demonstrated on youtube. 


    Once phone cooled down and restarted, Wifi was back.  I'm willing to do this periodically until Apple acknowledges that this is an IOS problem and publishes a fix.


    Finally, Apple should also acknowledge that since it's a software problem, the warranty should be in effect for 12 months after the software is installed.  I just updated the IOS last week--and never had a problem before then.  Sounds like that's true to most other users.

    Question guys. This has been happening to me for the past year with my 4s but I never brought it in. I have AppleCare for two more months. My phone is a 64g. If they trade it out for a new phone, will it be another 64g?

    If after trying all troubleshooting, apple will Not offer any means of repair if your phone is out of factory warranty. I'm am looking to start a class action suit. They did not warn anyone that the software updates would permanently disable wifi and you will not be able to use iCloud or any extra storage you may have purchased or update your apps that require wifi to update.

    The replacement should be the same color and same storage. Unless they are out of stock, but they would probably put you on wait list, so I would go in and start the replacement process ASAP.

    After living with this wifi problem for three months now (problem began 2 weeks after warranty expired and neither Apple nor AT&T would do anything except offer to sell me a new 4S for $199)'s also noteworthy that neither admitted to a problem.  Anway, I have tried every fix involving Settings configurations that I could find.  None worked.  Today I tried the hair dryer fix described on page 1 of these posts.  Surprise surprise it worked! I have wifi. For how long time will tell. To me, this confirms the problem is not software or ios update related (I am now running ios7.04), but is a wifi chip soldering issue where the soldering points become cracked or loose.  Heating up the phone in the area closest to the chip, ie, the 4S headphone jack, softens and then, as it cools, tightens the soldering points. 

    Question for those that have done this fix and gotten their wifi back, how long has it lasted?
