Airport Extreme and External HD to share iTunes library?

I currently have my iTunes library stored on a Lacie external HD and connect via USB to play music on my Macbook Air.

Can I use Airport Extreme connected to the external HD to wirelssly access my library from my Mac?

Are there any other alternatives, as I would ultimately want to then play music files using my Macbook through a wireless speaker system e.g. Sonos?

The AirPort Extreme can't act as an iTunes server. Other NAS boxes can such as the Synology range however these iTunes servers don't work as well as a real Mac.

However, you could point your iTunes library location at the Extreme and then use your Mac as the server.
