my ipad is getting my messages and my phone is not- what do I do?

I received an IPad for Christmas and have seeing that I am now getting my text messages to my IPad and not to my Iphone. Can you all help me out to set this up right so I get my messages? I only have wifi on my IPad- and so I will miss messages when I am out of the area

As you know, an iPad cannot actually receive ordinary text messages. However, it CAN communicate through Apple's iMessage system, which links a device or computer using your iCloud email address or iPhone number.


So, if someone texts you using your phone number, it should always go to the phone. If you want an email-based iMessage to also reach the phone, go to Settings - Messages, and turn on iMessage. Make sure, under Send and Receive, that your email address is listed. You can add it on that page if need be.
