I have a Mac 10.5.8 -- what is the next upgrade I can buy 10.6? Then, what are the next options?

If I may suggest that you take your time with it all... do not Rush it and make sure your Back Up is working to your satisfaction before Upgrading.
Also... Instaling the RAM should be done FIRST...
