SSD setup for Mac Pro 2008

I've just received a plastic icy dock 2.5>3.5" adapter and am planning to get an SSD later today from PC World in UKs who have models from Samsung, Sandisk, OCZ, and Crucial.

Not sure if this link will work:

Was planning to simply colne the 10.8.2 installation I currently have with Carbon Copy Cloner and give it a whirl.

Probably looking for a 250/256 GB model as the sweet spot price wise.

Any advice on setup?

What's the current state of play/advice relating to TRIM - ignore it on a larger drive?

Thanks in advance.

I agree that Apple's implementation is incomplete when it comes to Third-party SSD drives. They do enable TRIM on their own drives, where they have been able to test them thoroughly. They have traditionally been very conservative when it comes to what drives to allow -- even to the point of refusing to format any drives except their WhiteList of approved drives.

I am old enough to remember a time when not all commercially-available magnetic drives were supported by the Apple Drivers (Mac OS 7 and 8) and it was amazing when Drive Setup 1.7.3 was finally issued with support for all the commercially available drives of the day.
