some songs sound muffled / added blank space in song

having two problems i need help with...

1 - the first has apparently been happening for a while and i never noticed it...some songs sound muffled after i import them into iTunes. i never noticed before because in my earbuds it sounds fine. but i recently got a car adapter and that's when i noticed the difference. why would this be occurring? what is the best way/option to import songs? i import them in mp3 format...

2 - another issue is added blank space at the end of some songs. i'll import a song that is 3 minutes, for example. when i begin listening to my ipod, the song is 7 minutes long. the 4 minutes at the end of the song is dead air, so to speak. this is completely random, don't know why or how to explain it.

any tips or suggestions for either or both?

- improve sound quality

I'm guessing it's because your computer speakers and/or audio card aren't the same quality as your car stereo. Also possibly your car stereo has a frequency booster which creates an illusion of crisper sound even if it never existed on the original recording, many modern ones do.
iTunes has this option built into it too, you just have to enable it.
You can do that by playing a song in iTunes, then pressing Ctrl+, then under the Playback tab enable Sound Enhancer and drag the slider to the right until you get a sound you like. Some people have it set at 100%, some people prefer at 50% etc, but it does make a real difference. It does however make bad quality recording sound more warped, so this goes on the assumption your mp3s are any good.

Secondly, the large blank space at the end will be caused probably by a corrupt mp3 file. They will probably play normally on Winamp and other programs like that but not in iTunes.
There are programs that can fix the mp3 file, just Google for them.
