Standby & DVD player conflict

Hello !

--> When the DVD player quits working properly, first the "System Info" shows the endless rainbow disk ...

Then I force the reset of my MBP, and after this new re-start, the message given by the "System Info" command, by clicking in "Gravure de Disque", is :

"Aucun périphérique de gravure n’a été trouvé. Si vous utilisez un périphérique externe, veuillez vous assurer qu’il est correctement connecté et alimenté."

Even if this message is in french, it appears that the DVD player is no longer seen by the OS system ??!!

-> In the other cases, here is what can be seen through the same commands !! :

Do you want me to post here the report obtained after authorization correction in Safe Mode.

--> What do you mean by "for 3rd party Pref Panes ..." in the "System Preferences"?

For me, the 3rd line contains : Mobile Me + Share + Quick Time + Network ...

--> I did not find the files you mentioned above ; however I do not know how to view invisible files with OS ... :-(

--> In the System Prefs, in the row called "Other", I have the following inputs : Distribution Tex, Fan Control, Flash Player, Growl, MacFuse, Norton QuickMenu, NTFS-3G, Perian and Version Cue CS3.

--> Always in the System Prefs, in Accounts, and through my Login, the applications appearing when opening a session are : AdobeResourceSynchronizer, Wireless Utility, Spanning Sync, iTunesHelper.

I hope this may help you to advice me ... because it's a real crazy matter !

I forgot : even using "Invisibles 1.5" tool, any file or folder like "StartUpItems" or "LaunchDaemons" does appear in my OS system ...

1/ Following your advice, I suppressed Norton properly, using a Symantec un-install tool ... but unfortunately the matter remains the same :-(

It is true that I did not put a DVD player identical to the original, since the Toshiba-Samsung replacement does not present itself as a "snap disc", hence the need to rectify the metal casing of my Mac BookPro.

But it seemed to me that all DVD player-burner could agree ...

If you think I should test another one, no pb : now, thanks to the in line tutorial and some specific tools, I only need approximately 10 minutes to open my MBP ...

The matter still remains the same ! 😟

If I sum up the prob for people recently connected to this site :

whatever the mode I use (regular boot or safe boot), and whatever the user (current admin user or new admin user), the DVD player-burner of my Leopard MBP works properly before the first standby of the computer (either by clicking on the standby function in the apple menu or by closing the computer) ;

but after this 1st standby, the Disk Utility runs endless, and the DVD drive no longer mounts disks 😟

And if I try a second standby, this standby is not instantaneous but requires almost 30 seconds!

Should I deduce that internal non "snap disc" DVD players are not compatible with Mac OS systems ?
