I have a new apple tv, when i first set it up all my movies were shown on apple tv. I went on again and movies were missing. The movies are in my itunes library but not on my purchased movies on apple tv.

Assuming this is not the first time you have used your Apple TV
1. You might try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
2. Also try restarting the router.
3. If the problem persists, try a restore, you may want to try the previous procedures several times before doing this.
If this is a new Apple TV, it may also be that your network router is not allowing access to the timeserver, check that your router allows access over port 123.

And what about on the Apple TV, where exactly are you looking.
I see three movies on my Apple tv and i see nine movies on my itunes
I understand that, but I need to know where on each device you see them, could you answer these 4 questions, so as to remove any doubt.

There could be a few reasons why only 3 movies are being displayed in your purchases list.
Two of the movies I just bought and the others were from another computer transferred to mine via usb
Are you saying they were purchased from another account.
You can get this information from the Get Info window.
Then that is why they don't show in your purchased list. The purchased list is only relevant to the account that you are logged into. You will need to play these movies from the computer section or log into the account that you purchased them from.
What if it says that its purchased by me? I only have one Itunes account and I entered all the info for the digital copy yet its not there on my apple tv. It is there on my itunes account on my macbook pro.
I had the same issue (movies on itunes not on apple tv, and also had movies on appletv not showing up on itunes). This article fixed it for me:
Everyone should have the same problem, the reason they dont show up is because fox and universal dont have agreements with APPLE to add their movies to the cloud. Any movies I have added via digital copy of fox and universal dont show up, hope this helps.
I'm having the same problem. All of my. Lives that I have purchased either through iTunes or with a digital copy with blu ray disc used to show up. I noticed yesterday my Apple TV was showing all but 3 of my movies. They are all still on my iTunes account and show up when I look on my computer. The three missing movies are Disney movies and I still have my other Disney movies show up on my Apple TV.
