I bought a "demo-Unit" - will it still be okay?

I would also be a bit cautious about buying any "demo" unit. There have been thefts of gear from Apple Stores and other dealers, so it is very possible that the iPad is stolen property. Only if you're buying from an authorized iPad dealer would this be at all safe, though as the others said demo units aren't always a good idea.

Demo iPads tend to have limitations and sometimes they have certain features disabled that cannot be turned on. I would not buy a Demo iPad unless it was a real deal and even then, I would have inspected it before hand to make sure all aspects of it were o.k, and all features or at least the ones I wanted were accessible.

I would return that iPad and buy a new iPad. It doesn't look like a device ready to sell
