brilliant!

job done!

thanks very much to double_ohh7, Drew Reece, and Rustyintegrale (would that be a Lancia?!)

i'm back in the land of coverflow, separate windows, artwork that opens, and sensible sorting...

apple have done a lot of damage here though. i used to faithfully download every new upgrade for everything, the second it came out

... but not any more. the element of trust has gone.

This thread gives me cause for optimism. But when I try to run Pacifist, I get this message:

Sorry, one or more of the following command-line tools was not found:

/usr/bin/lsbom, /bin/pax, /bin/mkdir, /bin/chmod, or /usr/bin/update_prebinding.

These tools are required to run this program. Check to see that they are all present on your system.

Paul, just double checking with you that the Pacifist technique and a .itl file from another Mac's iTunes 10.7 library will work to replace 11 on a brand new Mac -? I need to get a new computer very soon and very much want to retain the functions of 10.7 on the new machine. Should I back-up the system at least once with 11 on it just in case?

Hi CC - you're asking the wrong person - double_ohh7, Drew Reece, and Rustyintegrale seem to be the experts and hopefully one of them will step in to help..

in the meantime, -

i installed 10.7 on my new iMac, and quickly upgraded to 11. .. hated it so i copied the .itl file from my old macmini, and used that in the method described in the link posted by double_ohh7, further up this thread.

everything worked fine.

i guess that a backup of your new machine with 11 would be a good idea, though only if the procedure goes wrong for some reason (like a power cut!)

i'd suggest that you make a list (perhaps a smart playlist) of any songs added since you started using 11, as you will lose the link to them, but you'll be able to re-download them from the iTunes store IF you know what they are!

good luck

Paul

my mac mini is about three years old. i think i upgraded that to iTunes11 in December, regretted it immediately and took it back to 10.7 before christmas.

i'm really not sure whether my new iMac (ordered last September but didn't arrive til mid January due to manufacturing delays) arrived with iTunes10 or iTunes11 - but the important thing as far as you are concerned is that both my MacMini AND my new iMac are now both running iTunes 10.7, having used the .itl file from my MacMini in the downgrade process

good luck!

uninstall itunes 11 and go back to 10.7
