uninstall itunes 11 and go back to 10.7

Yes you camn copy it over.

If you just want content thn copy the iTunes Media Folder.

If you want your playlists, ratings etc

Copy the folder higher up iTunes

Paste into the same place on imac

If it all went completely wrong you always have the backup copy on the Mac Mini

It's shameful that I had to come online just to find out it was that simple to get iTunes back to how I wanted it. iTunes should be easy to use out of the box, not this protracted labyrinth of drop-downs and hidden menus.

I just realized I probably can't do this. I was having hardware trouble with the 500 GB HD I use for Time Machine, so wiped it to start again. So I likely have no earlier iTunes library file.

Actually, I might. I have .itl files from Jan and March 2012.

I'm pretty lame about being proactive so how do I know which file is the one before I was forced to get iTunes 11 because I have had it for awhile but never do much with it.

Paul, just double checking with you that the Pacifist technique and a .itl file from another Mac's iTunes 10.7 library will work to replace 11 on a brand new Mac -? I need to get a new computer very soon and very much want to retain the functions of 10.7 on the new machine. Should I back-up the system at least once with 11 on it just in case?

in the meantime, -

i installed 10.7 on my new iMac, and quickly upgraded to 11. .. hated it so i copied the .itl file from my old macmini, and used that in the method described in the link posted by double_ohh7, further up this thread.

everything worked fine.

i guess that a backup of your new machine with 11 would be a good idea, though only if the procedure goes wrong for some reason (like a power cut!)

i'd suggest that you make a list (perhaps a smart playlist) of any songs added since you started using 11, as you will lose the link to them, but you'll be able to re-download them from the iTunes store IF you know what they are!

Oh, so, your new iMac came with 10.7? That's my concern, that machines that ship with 11 won't "revert" to 10.7 for some reason. The person I chatted with from the Apple Store told me that the newish Minis are shipping with 11, unfortunately.

my mac mini is about three years old. i think i upgraded that to iTunes11 in December, regretted it immediately and took it back to 10.7 before christmas.

i'm really not sure whether my new iMac (ordered last September but didn't arrive til mid January due to manufacturing delays) arrived with iTunes10 or iTunes11 - but the important thing as far as you are concerned is that both my MacMini AND my new iMac are now both running iTunes 10.7, having used the .itl file from my MacMini in the downgrade process

I am not sure about that.

I tried but failed to get 10.7 to load with a message stating the itl file was from a newer version of itunes. Should I copy an older itl file to the desktop and retry it? Thanks
