Canon MP980-not connecting wirelessly

I'm trying to connect my MacBook (os x 10.8.2) to my Canon Pixma MP980 printer. I've downloaded the driver and it prints fine when connected via USB. Can't get the wireless connection to work. I've downloaded the Wireless Setup Assistant and it cannot detect an access point.

I've followed the online guide (from Canon) for installing the printer onto additional computers. The first difference I noticed in the guide and what was available for me to download is the driver isn't specified as a network driver (and there isn't a network driver available). Could that be the problem?

I'd prefer to not get a new printer, but need it to print wirelessly as it is supposed to. There is no compatibility issues listed on the Canon site in regards to wireless printing and os x 10.8.

Any advice?

If the wireless setup assistant cannot locate your wireless access point, then the MP980 will have the same issue. So the first question is, what are you using as a wireless access point, also known as wireless router? Do you have an Apple product, like an Airport Extreme or Express? Or are you using a third party wireless router, such as a Netgear, Billion, D-Link, etc? Or are you using something else to connect your Mac to the Internet?

Well, I came across a similar, but different question on here and got it to work. I went into Print & Scan via System Preferences, deleted what was there, restarted and added the printer again (via the Print & Scan box). It works - wish I had known it was that easy before I spent hours of frustration on it! I suppose it is my welcome to the "simple" word of Macs...gotta wrap my mind around that simple concept!

Great that you got it working. The action you have followed is often the first and easiest to take when the printer is not working. I would suggest that the restart was probably the crucial action, as it often helps with finding wireless devices on your local network.
