I show to have 19 messages on my SMS MMS icon on my IPhone 4. when I tap on the message icon it tries to open with a blue screeen then returns to my home screen. I have tried networks reset, soft reset, restore from Itunes but still can not use messages

I show to have 19 messages on my SMS MMS icon on my IPhone 4. when I tap on the message icon it tries to open with a blue screeen then returns to my home screen. I have tried networks reset, soft reset, restore from Itunes but still can not use messages

I have had no issues like this before untill I received these 19 messages at one time and can access messages anymore

iPhone 4, iOS 6.0.1

I fixed it myself by logging into my AT&T account sending myself a text and opened it from the notification screen and then tapped the message button on top left then tapped edit without openeing any other texts and deleted all texts from all users. I am now to use my message icon normally again.
