While moving HD icon I placed it on top of or near the xcode icon on desktop. now xcode won't run. All hardware tested fine at apple and we reinstalled operating system. also HD icon removed from desk. Activity monitor %150 from xcode. Xcode removed and reinstalled twice. Girl at Genius bar stumped too.

2.) Here's the message after I press unlock: It repreats about every 5 seconds.
The file âUserInterfaceState.xcuserstateâ could not be unlocked.
Could not add write permission to the file because you do not own it. Try modifying the permissions of the file in the Finder or Terminal.
I found that I can still run my programs between warnings.

Thanks xnav, I'm not able to open xcode to start a new file or project, if I'm understanding that's where to enter the new user ID? The best I get is a no editor when I open xcode if the black spinning icon ever stops. And if I try to click anything in the tool bar I only get the color spinning icon.

Yes, if the problem app is still running on the desktop; otherwise, that doesn't affect what gets run at login, it only restarts desktop apps (not background process) that are still running when you shutdown.
Closing all apps before shutdown avoids any interference from the Resume feature.
Kob khun krap Softwater, I'm embarrassed to say I don't have any thing to back up my hard drive (time machine probably would have save my butt already). But maybe I can use my imac or ipad to do it? Otherwise, I'll have to wait a few days to get a back up HD.

Sawa dee krap softwater, I'll order the HD back up sometime this week and let you know when I get it (it sounds like the best way to go).
With your help and a little "chok di" I think I can get my MB going again just in time for school.

Did the back up and removed the Earthlink icon from Total access ( it was used prior to 10.7). I tried following
manual removal link and couldn't find any of the items to remove? Was removing the icon enough and what do I
do now?

Assuming those all came out of your Library/Preference folder you should be OK )you might have to re-create some of your preferences however).
They really did a whole sale slaughter!

in my user prefs (or in the list above), and the instruction to remove
com.apple.dt.Xcode.plist
was given at the beginning of the thread, twice...

Tried the Ctl-Click on 'mx_sw_ch.xcodeproj' and changed access to all user read/write but still no luck.
BTW, this problem happens on all my projects not just mx_sw_ch.xcodeproj.
Sorry, not sure what to substitute in the terminal command. It's getting a little complicated to follow.
It's looking like I need to just switch users and dump this one. Class is starting in a few days and I need to
focus my attention on SQL. Never thought this problem would be so difficult.
