Can you change the iTunes selected Artist View art?

When you're choosing an artist in the Artist View tab, iTunes preselected an album cover to display next to that band/artist's name. Is there a way to change this? It seems, in my case anyways, iTunes picked the photo to display based on the alphabetical order of that artist's albums. For example - Under "Aerosmith," the album cover that displays for the band is based on the 1973 "Aerosmith" album art, because it starts with "A." Would like to know if I somehow can change which album shows. I'd rather it list it by year, perhaps. This is how albums are listed once you pick an artist in my list....

Hopefully this makes sense. have included a photo of the part I wish to change however, in case not! Thanks!

i am having the same problem, iTunes 11 just assume all the Artwork i had selected on the older iTunes 10, but now if you want to change it 😠 it is over 😢

i got even an insolite case, i bought a new version (Japan) of a Diamond Head CD, i deleted the older version in iTunes and ripped the new one to the library. The Artist Artwork was the one from this CD and now i got a BLANK artwork 😟

how i can change it? or define a new one?

i guess that was one more new Apple bug on this re-vamp iTunes

You could try refreshing the artwork for all the albums by this artist. Copy the image then paste into the Get Info. box for all tracks, repeat for each album.

Of you could try deleting all the albums by this artist, then reimporting.

The nuclear option when nothing else works is to delete the Album Artwork folder from your iTunes libray folder and rebuild the entire artwork cache by scrolling through your library.

I would love to get back to what the thread's original question was. I've been trying for about an hour now. Renaming the picture file, changing sort options, and even renaming the album to be first alphabetically. It just wont let me choose what album to be displayed first for the artist. I just want their first album by year to be on top, not by letter.

for what i understood from your post, you need to order your Albuns. on the tap "Sorting" you have alot of sorting options, in my case, what i did was, the field "Sort Album" enter the release date of the record, as ex. Highway To **** from AC/DC was released on 3 August 1979, i enter on the field 19790803, you have to keep the standard format YYYYMMDD so that the 8 digits number are correctly interpretated by itunes.

in this way everytime you select an artist you get al the Albums ordered by release date order 🙂

the release date you can find esaely in wikipedia.

I'm curious as to how this Artist Artwork thing works because it's drastically different between iTunes and iOS. On my iPhone, bands like Paramore and All Time Low have artwork that features the band (and is not artwork used by any of their albums) - whereas on the PC it seems to choose a seemingly random piece of album artwork. I would wager that iOS is pulling the Artist Artwork from the store, regardless of whether you purchased the content from iTunes. Why doesn't iTunes behave like that? Or, give us the option?

it is a mess, a BIG MESS from Apple, since iTunes 11 they are obligating us "to consume" to see the **** art work they want and not the one we want.

so in iTunes i have 3 artists messed-up, which has no artwork at all, and to change it IS NOT POSSIBLE 😟

in iOS it even worst, no chance to change anything, and just to give one example, my AC/DC art is a live photo of the band with Brian Johnson singing yes he is the lead vocals since 1980, but i have there only records before 1980 with Bon Scott !!! why i have to see the picture which i dont want ??????????????????

another **** example, i have over 10 records from DIO on it, and suprise suprise the picture show me some stupid guy face with a hat with has nothing to do with my records ?????????????????? see DIO real picture at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dio_discography i can only laugh, but in reality i wanna cry 😕

WORKED FOR ME!

As Trep said:

You can change the artwork that is used for the artist. iTunes uses the artwork for the album with the highest rating. So, select the album you want to use and click 5 stars in the area under the artwork (or right-click > Rating).

Then quit iTunes and re-open it. The artist artwork should now be the album you selected.

BUT instead of quiting iTunes, R-click the artist view icon (ick cover), and "clear downloaded artwork", then R-click and "get album artwork". I just did this with Molly Hatchet, 3 albums, and wa lah...
