Issues with sleep/wake feature after 16GB RAM upgrade in my MacBook Pro. Any thoughts?

Just installed a 16GB RAM upgrade in my MacBook Pro and now it doesn't wake up on it's own when I open the lid. I have to press the power button. It works fine with a smaller RAM upgrade.

I've tried putting in just one of the 8GB modules and the sleep/wake feature works as normal so there isn't a problem with the RAM modules that I've bought (Crucial.com). I've also put in a combination of Apple's original RAM and the new ones to make 10GB (8GB + 2GB), and the sleep/wake feature works on that too. Put both 8GB modules back in and the MacBook doesn't wake up when I open the lid, I have to press the power button to wake it up. The MacBook itself works fine, super fast and the memory is recognised on 'About This Mac', the sleep/wake issue is the only problem I'm having with the 16GB RAM.

Any thoughts on this? Has anybody else had this sleep/wake issue like this when upgrading RAM?

Glad I found this thread.... I've run into a similar thing with some after market RAM that I bought (NOT from Crucial). It worked fine for about 14 months, and is giving me trouble now, strangely enough only with sleep/wake issues. Here's my final post from my original thread trying to sniff this one out:

Since some folks seemed to think this was RAM related, I decided to do some swapping. Here's what I found, and again, the problem was when the lid was closed on battery power, it would either go into a deep sleep or hibernation or full reboot to get it to wake up.

2 Factory Sticks - No problem

Replacement stick #1, Factory stick #2 - No problem

Replacement stick #2 alone - problem....

So there it is. The machine operated perfectly normally with both replacement sticks in it. They registered and were shown as 16GB total memory in the system screens. However, this sleep problem was still present.

So now, I've tossed "Replacement Stick #2" and have installed "Replacement Stick #1" and "Factory Stick #1", which totals 10GB and all seems to be well.

Thanks for reading......

Again, glad that I found this, hope it helps you too!

I've also upgrade my iMac. This upgrade were huge, from 8Gb to 32Gb.

Crucial 16GB 2x8GB DDR3 SDRAM 1600MHz 1600 PC3 12800 NonECC 204pin SoDIMM

Just to find out that CRUCIAL MEMORY WAS DEFECTIVE.

I mean, it recognise the 32Gb, but I can't be able to sleep my iMac again.

What is the solution I found?

Instead of turning off my iMac everyday (remember that I can not sleep anymore from memory), I modify the pmset values to sleep to (and from) hard disk.

It is wonderful now !! I can sleep again. Yes, isn't as fast as sleeping to/from RAM could be, but at least it works and I can keep my programs open and when I wake up my Mac every morning I have the same windows than the day before. And it is not as slow as you can think !! Maybe 20 or 30 seconds (most).
