Can I use "I" messaging for "Non apple" messaging recipients?

So I love the ipad so far.

However I have discovered that I cannot text message my husband who is a blackberry user (I know). Is there a way to configure IPAD to send to "non apple" users?

No, iMessage is Apple only.

Check the App Store if there is any app that can be used.

There are apps for that.

Text+ and google voice are ones I know of.
